Moškanjci combines opportunities for a passenger flight at the airfield with a managed pond and visible remains of the Poetovio–Savaria Roman road. There are also archaeological finds, a railway station and a small-sided football tournament held every year on 1 May. These themes offer different reasons to visit: a passenger flight, time by the water, local history or a fixed event date.
Airfield and passenger flights
The airfield lies north of the village of Moškanjci. Its grass runway is 1,100 metres long and 100 metres wide; operating dimensions may change, so check the latest information before planning a flight. Visitors can fly in a two-seat glider. The launch is either by winch or by aerotow: the difference is in the launch method, not in the basic passenger-flight offer. Ask Aeroklub Ptuj about availability and a suitable date. Hot-air balloons may also use the airfield during the day; whether they actually do depends on the weather and permits.
At Ribnik Moškanjci
Ribnik Moškanjci is a managed pond where walkers can spend time by the water. Recreational fishing is possible during the fishing season on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays with a one-day fishing permit; “catch and release” is the only permitted method. Anyone wishing to combine a visit with fishing must therefore consider the season, permitted day and one-day permit together. Check the current dates and permits before travelling, as well as the rules in force before fishing. For walkers by the water, the body of water itself is the main attraction. Access rules and facilities may change; check the current situation before your visit.
Roman road and archaeological finds
Remains of the Poetovio–Savaria Roman road are still visible in parts of Moškanjci. The area has also yielded a Bronze Age sword and a stone hammer axe. The road and the finds offer different historical perspectives: one is a still-recognisable route, while the other consists of archaeological objects from the local area. History enthusiasts can thus discover visible remains of the road alongside individual finds from different historical periods.
Rail connection and directions
Moškanjci lies on the railway line running through the settlements of the municipality of Gorišnica and has a railway station. Westbound rail services run towards Ptuj–Pragersko and onwards towards Ljubljana, Maribor and Graz; eastbound services run towards Ormož. Check current timetables and connections for your travel date, as services may change.
An annual event on 1 May
The Moškanjci sports club holds a small-sided football tournament every year on 1 May in memory of two deceased village residents. There is also a bonfire with live music on the same day. The tournament and accompanying programme therefore take place on a fixed annual date. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the current date and programme before travelling.
For travel planning, the tournament is the fixed date to plan around on 1 May; fishing depends on the season, days of the week and a one-day permit, while passenger flights require a date to be arranged directly.
