In Podsabotin, challenging trails on Sabotin meet local history and visits to local producers. The hiking trails have different planning details: for one tour, the distance and terrain are described; for another, the walking time and elevation gain are provided. There are also visitor experiences, some of which require prior arrangements.

Hiking on Sabotin

A challenging 11-kilometre trail leads from Podsabotin to the observation post on Mount Sabotin and back. Some sections are very steep and rocky. Check trail conditions before setting out and take these terrain features into account when planning your day.

The Podsabotinska hiking trail starts at the bus stop in Podsabotin. The stated walking time is 1 hour and 50 minutes, with an elevation gain of 480 metres. Your actual pace also depends on conditions along the way. Route information may be updated, so check the latest details before your hike.

The trails therefore provide different planning details: for the trail to the observation post, the return route, total distance and steep, rocky sections are key details; for the Podsabotinska, the duration and elevation gain help you assess the hike.

Getting there and finding your way

The road to Mount Sabotin passes through Podsabotin and by the Pri Bregarju agritourism farm. It is unpaved and unsuitable for motor vehicles. Take this restriction into account when planning your journey and check conditions before setting off. A road from Solkan to Hum in Brda also passes through Podsabotin.

The church and local history

The original Church of St. Nicholas was built in the 18th century, destroyed during the First World War and rebuilt in the interwar period. Its architecture includes a larger rectangular nave and a presbytery with a three-sided apse. The bell tower stands against the south wall of the nave and was restored in the 1990s.

The reconstruction plans are also part of local history: after the First World War, the architect Fabiani designed a plan to renew the hamlet around the Church of St. Nicholas. The design offers a distinct perspective on the postwar period, alongside the building’s history.

A monument in Podsabotin commemorates Mirko Zimic, as well as other fallen soldiers and victims of the Second World War. Alongside the history of the church, you will also find memorials to the wartime period.

Products and tastings

By prior arrangement, you can visit the olive grove and apiary at Kmetija Jericijo and take part in tastings. The farm produces honey, olive oil and seasonal fruit. Product availability may vary by season, so arrange your visit in advance.

ValentinÄŤiÄŤ Turizem in Podsabotin offers wine tastings, cellar tours and wine sales. As visitor arrangements may change, check the current options before your visit. The selection includes the indigenous Rebula grape from Brda, as well as several French varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Malvasia, Pinot Noir and Merlot.

The possible highlights range from a challenging hike to church and local history, as well as local products and tastings. For hikes, the details provided for each trail offer guidance; arrange visits to producers in advance or check the current visitor options.
