Lenart V Slov. Goricah brings together nature around Lake Komarnik, hiking trails in the municipality and cultural history in Lenart. Around the lake, there are walking paths and facilities for birdwatching; the educational trails each focus on different themes. In town, historic buildings and a permanent exhibition are among the cultural attractions. You can therefore make your choice based on specific trail features and interests.
Nature around Lake Komarnik
Lake Komarnik is designated as a natural asset of national importance. Walking paths with trail signs and information boards lead around it. There are also special facilities for birdwatching, offering another way to experience this natural area. Before visiting, check the current condition of the paths and facilities on site.
Educational trails and their themes
In Lenart, the European Educational Trail passes through Dr. Joze Pucnik's Town Park. Along the route, you can find basic information about the member states of the European Union and their flags. The trail thus combines a walk through the named park with a clear educational theme.
Two marked trails described as easy are located in the wider municipal area. Agata's Educational Hiking Trail is 3.1 kilometres long and runs one way from Hrastovec via Komarnik to the Black Cross. Franc's Educational Hiking Trail is 2.7 kilometres long; along it, you can discover plants and animals in the protected area of Lake Komarnik. Franc's trail is therefore the shorter of the two, while Agata's route is distinguished by its named stops and one-way course. Both trails offer clear guidance through their length, markings and stated focus.
When choosing between the routes, you can first compare the kind of experience you want: Agata's Trail lists the sequence from Hrastovec via Komarnik to the Black Cross and follows a one-way course. Franc's Trail focuses on plants and animals in the protected area. These hiking trails are in the wider municipal area and should be distinguished from the walking paths around the lake.
Architecture and history in Lenart
The Old Primary School is a Classicist building dating from 1895 in the centre of Lenart. The town's educational history also includes the founding of the first regular school with a full-time teacher in 1759.
The Church of St Lenart was first mentioned in 1196. Thanks to its fine architecture and detailed stonework, it is considered the finest example of “Slovenske gorice Gothic”. The church also served a defensive purpose during the Ottoman raids.
The permanent exhibition “Stalna razstava Slovenske gorice v letu 1848/49” is on display at the Center of Slovenske Gorice in Lenart. It covers the activities of Slovenes between the Mura and Drava rivers in 1848/1849 to standardise the Slovenian language and writing system. The beginning of the movement for an independent Slovenia is another topic. The exhibition therefore explores both the history of language and writing and a political movement of that period.
Information and regional specialities
TIC Slovenske gorice is in the town centre, opposite the parish church. It provides information about leisure, accommodation, dining and other tourist services, and organises excursions with a local guide. If you are weighing up different elements of your stay, you can ask there about these topics.
At Kramberger Wines in Spodnje Partinje, within the municipality of Lenart, homemade bread and pastries are baked in a brick oven; slovenskogoriška gibanca is also prepared. On request, Kramberger Wines welcomes groups of up to 40 people and prepares cold cuts and tastings. Another visitor activity offers the chance to see a beehive and taste honey.
Cycling in the municipal area
The Lenart Cycling Route is another option for cyclists. It runs through the municipality of Lenart and is considered a more demanding cycling route because of its varied terrain. This sets it apart from the hiking trails described as easy, both in the way you travel and in the stated level of difficulty.
