Nine mineral water springs in use, with average temperatures between 12 and 16 °C, shape Radenci’s profile as a spa and holiday destination. The springs form the basis of spa tourism at Terme Radenci. Visitors planning a stay can combine the theme of water with local history, a nature trail or cycling tours. Alongside the spa aspect, there are also specific trails and cultural sites to choose from as different points of interest.
Mineral Water and Spa History
The discovery of the mineral springs by Karl Henn in 1833 is part of the town’s history. The springs currently in use form the basis of spa tourism at Terme Radenci. One specific point of reference is the Healing Spring, called “Zdravilni Vrelec” in Slovenian: it is located right next to Terme Radenci. Those interested in the spa town’s development can consider the historical connection to 1833 alongside the springs’ role today.
Spa Park and Nature Trail
Radenci’s spa park is home to the neo-Gothic Chapel of St. Anne, built in 1895. The “From Stone to Iron” nature trail offers another way to explore local history. Its content connects prehistory with the later development of spa tourism in Radenci. The trail also features an iron-rich water spring. The longer option is a 4 km circular route. The trail thus combines a specific route with historical themes; those who would like to bring both together in one outing can include it in their plans.
Cycling Routes with Different Itineraries
Signposted cycle routes of varying difficulty explore Radenci and the surrounding area. According to the municipal visitor information, they are suitable for both family outings and more challenging rides. Two described routes offer different highlights: the “Radenski Krog” starts in Radenci, passes through Turjanci and a Roman-era burial mound, continues to Janžev Vrh, and returns to Radenci through Boračevo. The “Traminca” cycle route runs from Radenci over hills to Kapelski Vrh. You can choose between a circular tour returning to Radenci and a ride over hills to a named destination. Check the latest route information before setting off, as conditions and seasonal details may change.
Water as a Multimedia Theme
Established in 2026, the sustainable tourism product “Svet doživetja vode” presents the importance of water to Radenci’s development through sound, light, movement and storytelling. It includes the interactive projections “Water Dance” and “Water Symphony,” as well as an updated film about the history of Radenska water and the development of Radenci. While the nature trail combines a route with historical content, this product uses multimedia to present the theme of water.
Family Program and Summer Events
“Mačje mesto” is an integrated tourism product featuring activities in sport, culture and cuisine, traditional customs, and accommodation. It is aimed mainly at children and families. The 12th edition of the Family Tourism Festival took place on 19 and 20 June 2026 in Radenci; it was organized by the Municipality of Radenci. The municipality’s cultural program for 2026 to 2030 lists “Mačje mesto” as one of its recurring annual programs. Check the dates for future editions.
The summer program “Radensko poletje” also added a seasonal highlight in 2026: the spa park in Radenci hosted summer evenings with music and open-air concerts. Together with the family festival, this program shows that dated events are also part of the cultural offering, alongside the topics described as available year-round.
