Eight hiking trail options, historic churches, pottery and industrial history give a trip to Štore a range of possible focuses. You can combine time outdoors with architectural and local history, or with physical activity. To make your choice, it is worth first considering which of these aspects interests you most.

Hiking with different options

The Po Štorah hiking trail network comprises eight routes of varying length and difficulty. It is intended for walkers, hikers, nature lovers, groups, families and individual visitors. The trail combines nature and relaxation and introduces visitors to the area's natural features. Numbered trail signs and 53 information boards provide guidance; there are also benches and five rest areas. Check trail conditions before setting out and, if the facilities matter to your plans, check their current status too: infrastructure details may change due to maintenance.

Churches and traces of history

On Svetina stands the Church of Marije Snežne, a Gothic fortified church dating from the late 15th century. Its furnishings include a late Gothic painting of Mary and Jesus, a Marian throne from 1700, a painting of the Nativity of Mary and a Baroque organ. The Church of sv. Lovrenca is on the edge of the village of Kompole and is surrounded by a cemetery. The noble Saiffner family had it built in the second half of the 14th century; it was first mentioned in writing in 1525.

Another church, sv. Janeza Krstnika, stands on a rise in Šentjanž nad Štorami, near the local road to Svetina. The surviving tower of the former Prežin manor serves as its bell tower. The three sites illustrate different aspects of architectural history: a late Gothic fortified church and its furnishings, a church with a recorded construction date, and a tower whose former function lives on in the present-day church building.

Svetina: history, customs and places of remembrance

Svetina is a compact settlement in the hills, at an elevation of 683 metres. Written records date back to the Middle Ages; the first entry in the Celje land register is from 1480. Local tradition includes šentoščeva nedelja. Its customs include gathering greenery, weaving wreaths, raising a maypole, baking potica and other pastries, and holding a procession with the Marian throne. Dates and access may vary; check both if you are planning your trip specifically around the celebration. The cemetery in Svetina is also the burial place of the writer and world traveller Alma Karlin. The Almini dnevi in Svetina is a gathering of world travellers.

Pottery and industrial history

Lončarstvo Buser has a 220-year tradition of making pottery. During a visit, you can see the workshop, kiln and production process, as well as watch work at the potter's wheel. The visit also includes a shop and a permanent collection of ethnological heritage. Check visitor arrangements in advance.

The completely renovated Kmetija »Pri starem mlinu« preserves its old style. Along with the house and barns, the property includes an old kozolec dating from 1891 and a mill with a water wheel. Visitors can use a forest trail, a Kneipp trail and an energy trail, and watch grain being milled using a water wheel or a horse-powered mill. As visits are arranged privately, please arrange your visit in advance.

The Železarski muzej Štore in Teharje presents the development of Štore and the surrounding settlements from the second half of the 19th century to the present day. Documents, photographs, plans and objects preserve the heritage of the ironworks there.

Cycling and sports

The Kolesarska povezava Celje–Štore–Šentjur is 11.6 kilometres long and runs alongside the Voglajna for almost its entire length. The state cycling route includes four bridges over the Hudinja and Voglajna rivers and the Žikovski potok stream. This provides specific route information for cycling, while the hiking network offers eight options to choose from based on length and difficulty.

The Športna dvorana Štore Green Steel has three playing courts and an eleven-metre climbing wall. Badminton, handball, football, volleyball, basketball and sport climbing are available there. If you are planning to use the hall, check public access in advance; facilities and terms of use may change.

Accommodation and planning your stay

For motorhome travellers, the Domačija and organic farm Artišek in Ogorevc offers a designated pitch and a room for social gatherings. Another place to spend time together, the Kozolec Pečovje–Laška vas, is set in natural surroundings and has space for picnics and events; its use may depend on local arrangements.
