In Lošonec, marked trails through the landscape of the Little Carpathians meet a precisely dated building history. If you would like to combine nature and culture during your stay, the area offers concrete options: protected areas with different landscape features, hiking and cycling trails, and St. Anne’s Church.

Natural areas with distinct features

The Klokoč Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral area of Lošonec, covers 21.59 hectares and was designated in 1996. It is located in a landscape shaped by limestone and dolomite ridges. The massif itself consists of an exposed body of basic volcanic rocks, known as melaphyres, and forms an unusual complex of meadow-like ridges on igneous rock. The communities in Klokoč include grass and herb, shrub and animal communities; fallow deer, mouflons and roe deer are found there.

The Čierna skala Nature Reserve covers 29.71 hectares and was also designated in 1996. It protects karst formations in limestone and preserved xerothermic communities. The natural forest and open-land communities are interspersed with rock faces and scree slopes. The two protected areas therefore have different characteristics: Klokoč is defined by its geological ridge and the animal communities found there, while Čierna skala is characterized by karst and warmth-loving communities.

Hiking trails, summit views and a cycling loop

The Jahodník recreation area is the starting point for marked hiking trails to Čierna skala and the Záruby. A yellow-marked hiking trail also leads from Jahodník to the Čierna skala Nature Reserve. From the 662-metre-high summit, the view stretches across the extensive forests of the Little Carpathians and the Danube Hills. Several marked trails pass through Lošonec and connect the Jahodník and Majdan recreation areas with Plavecké Podhradie.

Jahodník is also the starting point for an access trail to Driny Cave; cave visits are seasonal. You can plan your excursion around your destination, such as a summit with a view, a marked connection between recreation areas or a seasonal cave visit. Check the trail signs and conditions before setting out.

There are also named options for cycling trips. The Malokarpatská cycling route runs through the foothills near Lošonec. A cycling loop passes through Majdan and the Parina ponds, following forest paths as far as Doľany. The route and forest paths offer a different focus from the marked hiking connections; surfaces and trail conditions may change.

St. Anne’s Church and its building history

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Anne, together with its fortification, is listed as a national cultural monument. The current presbytery was built during the Baroque renovation of 1714; the two side chapels were added in 1753. The church retains a wooden pulpit featuring late ornamental details and elements of the High Baroque. The interior furnishings were completed by 1753.

The dates mark different building phases: 1714 refers to the Baroque renovation and the current presbytery, while 1753 marks the addition of the side chapels and completion of the interior furnishings. This makes it possible to understand the architectural heritage through specific changes, rather than viewing the church only as a single sightseeing stop.
