Senica can be explored through a variety of themes: exhibitions and historic buildings tell the story of the town, while trails towards Kunovská priehrada bring nature and leisure activities into focus.

Mill and Town History

The Škodáčkov Mill near Pivák is open to the public. It tells the story of milling, traditional technical crafts and the history of Čáčov. Visitors can see the preserved technical equipment there. Anyone with a particular interest in historic working methods and technology will find a tangible connection to local history here. As visiting arrangements may change, check the latest information in advance.

The museum’s exhibitions also focus on different periods. The Stará Senica exhibition has been part of the permanent displays since 2020. Its 3D town model shows the historic centre of Senica around the turn of the 20th century. It also depicts buildings that no longer exist in the town today. The model thus illustrates not only individual buildings but also how the townscape has changed.

The Archaeological Exhibition reaches further back into the past and documents settlement in Senica throughout every era of human history. It also covers the discovery of part of a woolly mammoth tusk, found during construction of Kunovská priehrada. It is considered possible evidence of hunting—a possible, not confirmed, interpretation of the find.

Churches and Architectural Monuments

The Evangelical Church in Senica is a Neoclassical Toleration Church. It was built in 1783 and 1784; its tower was added to the gabled façade in 1794. The Roman Catholic Parish Church of the Virgin Mary dates from 1631. It was originally Evangelical and became Catholic in 1654. The dates mark different chapters in the town’s church history; the two buildings do not share a single construction history.

The statue of Saint Florian and Sokolovňa are also part of the town’s architectural and cultural history. The statue dates from the second half of the 18th century and is registered as an immovable national cultural monument in the Slovak Republic. Sokolovňa is a restored 19th-century summer house and is also registered as a national cultural monument.

The Záhorská galéria Jána Mudrocha is housed in a late Baroque chateau, probably completed around 1760. Check the latest information before your visit.

Trails and Leisure at Kunovská priehrada

The Náučný chodník Senica–Kunovská priehrada is a five-kilometre trail from Senica town park towards the reservoir, following the Teplica stream. Nine information panels line the route. It ends at an interactive environmental corner for children, where they can learn about nature and its inhabitants through play.

A route from Senica to Kunovská priehrada starts at Senica’s central bus station and leads to the recreation area after 5.5 kilometres. The routes described differ in length and starting point; these details offer initial guidance when choosing a trail. The recreation area itself includes a sandy beach with parasols and a sports area with rental facilities. The boathouse rents out water attractions seasonally, and availability may vary. If you plan to use these facilities, check the latest information.

The Senica Tourist Information Centre is a starting point for discovering the Záhorie region.
