Natural formations, geology and local history reveal different aspects of the area around Prasnik. Two nature trails focus on different themes: one is a circular route via Čerenec, Tlstá hora, Malá Pec and Veľká Pec; the other explores geodiversity. The area also features protected rock formations, botanical highlights and archaeological sites.

Nature Trails and Walking Times

The Prašník–Čerenec–Tlstá hora–Malá Pec–Veľká Pec–Barónov hrob–Prašník nature trail is an 11.0 km circular route with 396 m of elevation gain. Six stops break up the route; walking time is approximately three to four hours. The municipal office in Prašník is considered the best starting point and is accessible by bus. The trail is suitable for hikers and open year-round. Route details may change if the trail is redesigned. Check local access conditions before setting out.

The Pustá Ves–Kras–Drieňový vrch–Trianova dolina–Jaskyňa Klenová–Rozhľadňa Klenová–Kameňolom pod Hrádkom–Pustá Ves nature trail is a 13.7 km circular route and the first nature trail in Slovakia dedicated to geodiversity. At the Letohrádok stop, you can switch from this trail to Prašník–Barónov hrob or Šterusy–Orlie skaly; follow the current signposts. The comparison between the two loops is specific: Pustá Ves–Klenová is 2.7 km longer, while an approximate walking time and elevation gain are also given for the 11 km route.

Protected Nature and Archaeological Traces

The Čerenec Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral area of Prašník and covers 1.50 ha. It is known for its abundant large-flowered pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis); the fourth level of nature protection applies there. This gives the area a clear botanical focus.

Veľká Pec is a protected natural formation in the form of a rock overhang and lies within the cadastral areas of the municipalities of Prašník and Šterusy. Malá Pec is a natural monument featuring a rock arch in the cadastral area of Prašník. The two names therefore refer to different rock formations: an overhang and an arch. Veľká Pec is also a Paleolithic cave settlement and archaeological site. Fossil finds include bones of mammoths and cave bears. A nature conservation overview dated September 24, 2025, lists Veľká Pec Cave among the freely accessible caves of the Little Carpathians.

Local History and Other Themes

Mount Tlstá hora is home to the remains of a settlement from the Early Iron Age and a later fortified Bratrík camp from the 15th century. These traces point to two clearly separate historical periods. Pustá Ves was once home to the summer residence of the von Wattenwyl family. Retreating German troops burned it down; the building has not survived.

The water mill near the center of Prašník was built in the second half of the 19th century and declared a cultural monument in 1984. It is also known locally as Devátnikov mlyn. The SNP monument, protected since 1963, stands in the Dúbrava district. During the annual SNP commemorations, a wreath-laying ceremony is held there in honor of the soldiers who fell in the Second World War.

Water and fishing are also among the local themes: the Čerenec reservoir was created, among other purposes, to provide opportunities for recreation and fishing. The VN Čerenec reservoir is a local carp fishing area covering 38 ha.

Plan Your Visit

Visitors interested in geology and fossils can include the exhibition in Prašník in their plans. It is open to the public during the municipal office's business hours, but only by prior arrangement with the mayor. Be sure to arrange your visit in advance. For a hike, the details on the circular route, stops and walking time provide a practical outline; check access conditions and the route locally before setting out.
