Nová Lehota lies in the Považský Inovec mountains. Here, the SKI Bezovec ski area, protected natural areas, marked routes and historic buildings come together. This mix of themes can help you plan your visit: you can focus your stay on winter sports, hiking and cycling, or local history—different priorities that each offer their own discoveries.
Winter Activities at SKI Bezovec
The SKI Bezovec ski area is located in Nová Lehota. It has four ski lifts and a total of 1.6 kilometres of ski runs. There is also night skiing on 300 metres of illuminated slopes. This makes it possible to distinguish between the extent of the ski runs and the separately specified night-skiing offer when planning. Seasonal availability may vary; check the latest operating information before your trip.
Hiking and Cycling Routes with Different Profiles
A marked blue hiking trail leads from the Bezovec cottage area near Nová Lehota to Tematín Castle. The route passes through meadows and forest. If you plan to take this trail, take the current condition of the route into account.
The Via Považský Inovec cycling route offers a different perspective: it descends to Nová Lehota and then climbs to the saddle below Bezovec. The hiking route features Tematín Castle, meadows and forest along the way; the cycling route is characterised by its descent into the village and the subsequent climb. Both descriptions can help you choose the type of tour you want, without assuming a duration or difficulty level. Surface conditions and accessibility may also vary on the cycling route.
Protected Nature in the Považský Inovec
Mokvavý prameň is a protected natural monument in Nová Lehota, designated in 1983. The area covers 20,989 m² and is subject to the fourth level of protection. It is also considered an easily accessible study site and a landscape-defining feature. The name is therefore associated not only with a protection category, but also with a specific area and a distinctive role in the landscape.
The Dubový vŕšok nature reserve lies within the cadastral area of Nová Lehota. It was designated in 1993 and is also subject to the fourth level of protection. It protects a valuable section of oligotrophic, acid-soil oak forest on the crystalline bedrock of the Považský Inovec. Typical indicator plants are part of the ecological description of this habitat. Dastínska kyselka is an alkaline mineral spring associated with Nová Lehota.
Church, Chapel and Local History
The Evangelical church in Nová Lehota is a single-nave Neo-Romanesque building dating from 1866. A wooden bell tower with an open structure and a pyramidal spire stands directly beside the church. The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua is also single-nave and dates from 1903. These buildings offer a chance to see different forms of religious architecture in the village.
Nová Lehota was first mentioned in a written record in 1348 as part of the Tematín estate. On the village square stands a marble war memorial bearing the names of eighteen people who fought and died in the two world wars. The television series “Horná Dolná” is also associated with the village: Nová Lehota appears in it as the village of Horná Dolná.
