Nová Dubnica combines a distinctive history of urban planning with sports facilities in the town and places to visit in the surrounding area. Construction began in 1951, based on a design developed by the artists’ studio of architect Jiří Kroha. The socialist model town was built between 1952 and 1956. This gives visitors several different aspects to explore when planning a trip: the town’s layout, sports facilities in the town and outdoor activities in the surrounding area.
Urban Planning and Architecture
Peace Square is now the main axis of the socialist model town. The buildings along the boulevard have covered arcades, while the blocks’ courtyards are extensively landscaped with greenery and orchards. The town’s design is therefore evident both in the boulevard’s facades and in the green courtyards within the blocks. Those interested in urban planning can understand Nová Dubnica at these two different scales: the urban space along the main axis and the design within the blocks.
Culture and Church
Panorex is used exclusively for concerts, entertaining stage performances, larger social events and exhibitions. The church “Kostol sv. Jozefa, robotníka” offers a different point of interest: it houses a foundation stone blessed by Pope John Paul II. These provide distinct cultural points of reference: an events venue and a religious detail.
Sport and the Summer Season
Visitors looking to include exercise in their stay will find an athletics track at Hviezdoslavova 2, open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The athletics track at the MFK Nová Dubnica stadium can be used for jogging. Leisure sports enthusiasts can also use the adjacent tennis courts in Nová Dubnica.
Kúpalisko Letka Nová Dubnica opened to visitors for the 2026 summer season.
Hiking and Cycling in the Surrounding Area
The Biele Karpaty (White Carpathians), near Nová Dubnica, offer opportunities for hiking and cycling. The Vršatské bralá cliffs, with their castle ruins, are particularly popular. These activities combine outdoor exercise with a specific historical point of interest. They take place in the surrounding area, while urban planning is something to explore in the town itself.
Town Festival
The recurring Dni mesta Nová Dubnica town festival was scheduled for 29 and 30 May 2026 at Mierové námestie. The planned programme included music, dance and theatre performances, a children’s programme, games and competitions, a large fire show, craft markets and all-day refreshments.
Accommodation and Trip Planning
Two three-star hotels offer accommodation to visitors to Nová Dubnica. When planning your trip, it helps to distinguish between what is in the town and what is nearby: the architecture and sports facilities are in the town, while hiking and cycling opportunities are in the surrounding area. You can therefore first consider whether urban design and exercise or activities in the countryside matter more for your stay before looking for accommodation.
