Church art, historic traces and nature offer different focal points for a trip to Slovenská Ves. The village lies in the northwest of the Poprad Basin, on the southern slope of Spišská Magura, in the valley of the Slovenský potok. The road connections also help with geographic orientation: Slovenská Ves lies at a road junction with routes to Spišská Stará Ves and Tatranská Kotlina.

Churches, Art and Local History

The Roman Catholic Church of the Purification of the Virgin Mary was built in the second half of the 14th century and remodeled in the Baroque style in 1769. The main altar includes a rare late-Gothic Madonna from 1510, from the workshop of Majster Pavol z Levoče. The church thus brings together three distinct periods: its medieval construction, the late-Gothic altarpiece and the Baroque remodeling.

The present-day Evangelical church offers a different architectural accent. It was built in 1906–1908 in the pseudo-Gothic style, based on a design by the builder and entrepreneur József Mitra of Košice. Together with the older Catholic church, it reflects another phase in the village’s history.

A protected historic park is located in the center of Slovenská Ves; only a remnant of its original planting survives. Finds of stone artifacts from the Late Paleolithic are known at Kamence. An abandoned medieval village dating from the 14th to 15th centuries was also located there. The wooden memorial at the cemetery bears the names of local people who fell in the First and Second World Wars. Check the cemetery’s restoration status separately before visiting.

Meadows, Protected Areas and Wildlife

Lúka Kúty is a wet, tall-growing meadow habitat along the lower reaches of the Slovenský potok, east of the agricultural farm. It is home to some protected and endangered plant species, including the rare and endangered marsh helleborine (Epipactis palustris). The habitat links the landscape along the stream with distinctive plant life.

Near Slovenská Ves, the Belianske lúky Nature Reserve has an 800-meter educational trail with seven information panels. At the end, a 250-meter elevated wooden boardwalk leads into the protected area and offers a direct view. The final section is not accessible by bicycle. There are also two sites with beaver populations in the cadastral area of Slovenská Ves; wildlife presence may vary by season.

Winter and Cycling Plans

The lift at SKI CENTRUM ĽANDY is 400 meters long, climbs 120 meters in elevation and has a capacity of 300 people per hour. It operates during the winter season. Check seasonal availability before your trip if you plan to make use of this facility.

A cycling route described in 2026 passes through Červený Kláštor and continues through Slovenská Ves, Spišská Belá and Kežmarok. As route conditions can change, check them before setting out. The route offers a different travel focus from the village’s history and nature: it connects Slovenská Ves with the other places mentioned.
