An underground watercourse stretching 520 m and a 34 m-high stalagmite make Krásnohorská jaskyňa a distinctive highlight of Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka. The area also has marked trails, Andrássy history and crafts. When choosing accommodation in the village, you can plan your visit around a cave tour, a hiking route or one of the seasonal craft events.

Cave and Marked Trails

Krásnohorská jaskyňa is listed as a unique natural formation on the World Natural Heritage List. It can be visited on guided tours with experienced guides and full caving equipment. The tour leads to Kvapeľ rožňavských jaskyniarov, a 34 m-high stalagmite. The underground watercourse stretches 520 m from its source to Marikino jazero. Check the cave’s visiting options before your trip.

A yellow-marked hiking trail starts in Rožňava, passes through Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka and ends at the Škridlový košiar signpost on the Silická planina at an altitude of 540 m. From there, a green-marked hiking trail runs via the Pod dievčenskou skalou signpost at 660 m to the Dievčenská skala viewpoint, also at 660 m. The route to the Horný-vrch plateau is of moderate difficulty and ends at the bus stop and car park in Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka in Rožňava District. When choosing an excursion, you can therefore consider different points of reference: a series of marked trails leading to a viewpoint, or a route explicitly rated as moderate that ends in the village.

Andrássy History and Architecture

Andrássy Castle was built by Count Juraj IV Andráši as a U-shaped Neoclassical building. A marble plaque on the façade of the former Andrássy Castle commemorates the fact that Count Dionýz Andráši was born there on 18 November 1835. The plaque links a specific place to a precisely dated historical event.

The Catholic Church of St. George also has a multi-stage building history: it was originally a Baroque building dating from 1754 and was later remodelled twice in the Neo-Gothic style. Some farmhouses from the late 19th and early 20th centuries have also been preserved. A chapel in the village was built and consecrated in 1748 to commemorate an apparition of the Virgin Mary to two local girls. For a stay centred on cultural history, these sites offer different points of reference, from the Baroque period and later alterations to preserved houses dating from two centuries.

Crafts and Seasonal Events

Remeselnícky Dom serves as a fully equipped creative workshop and exhibition space for presenting and selling original handmade products. At Dom Remesiel, visitors can view a range of handmade products and learn about traditional crafts under the guidance of experienced master craftspeople. Alongside the cave and trails, these craft offerings provide the village with another distinct focus for visitors.

Some experiences are available only at certain times. During part of the summer, including July and August, bread-making demonstrations using a historic outdoor oven are held at Remeselnícky Dom once a week. From April to October, an antiques and crafts market takes place at Dom Remesiel every fourth Sunday. The two events follow different schedules: bread-making is offered during part of the summer season, while the market recurs on Sundays over several months. Individual dates may change, so check them before travelling if you want to time your overnight stay to coincide with one of these visits.
