Letanovce offers several highlights for a discovery trip: the Prielom Hornádu National Nature Reserve also extends into the village’s cadastral area. Other attractions include a long circular hike starting from Letanovce, cultural history at Kláštorisko and the Church of All Saints in the village. When looking for a holiday apartment for a stay in Letanovce, your preferred focus can help guide your choice: would you like to set aside time for an extended hike, explore historical sites or consider a seasonal activity on the water?

Plan Nature and Tours

Prielom Hornádu is an almost twelve-kilometre-long, canyon-like gorge along the upper course of the Hornád River. In summer, when conditions are favourable and the water level is sufficient, you can travel through the gorge by kayak, canoe, inflatable boat or paddleboard. This is an option dependent on conditions, not an activity that can be reliably planned for every summer day: check local conditions before attempting it. When choosing a watercraft, the options are the listed types of boat or a paddleboard; making the passage depends on suitable conditions.

The Ferrata HZS Kyseľ calls for a different kind of time planning: the circular hike starting from Letanovce is 14 kilometres long, with a stated walking time of six hours and five minutes. Weather, seasonal restrictions and trail conditions may affect the actual duration. The time stated is therefore a guide for the time block you should allow, not a fixed schedule. The ferrata is accessible from 15 June to 31 October and can only be traversed in one direction, from bottom to top. A special via ferrata set is required to enter; it can be rented from several rental outlets. Before your trip, check the current park information about this seasonal access rule.

The ferrata and paddling differ mainly in what you need to plan for in advance: the ferrata requires you to take its access period, direction of travel and equipment into account. Travelling through Prielom Hornádu in summer depends on favourable conditions and a sufficient water level. These differences can help you tailor your day’s plans to your chosen focus, without assuming that both activities have the same requirements.

History and Architecture

Kláštorisko brings together two historical points of reference from very different periods. Archaeological investigations have uncovered traces of fortified settlements there dating from the Late Bronze Age. Later, in 1299, a Carthusian monastery was founded at Kláštorisko. Anyone interested in the history of the area will find evidence of both early settlement and a specific date from the Middle Ages.

The Roman Catholic Church of All Saints stands in Letanovce. Its oldest parts date from the second half of the 13th century; it also preserves an original Romanesque portal above the Holy Sepulchre. The usual opening arrangements are important when planning a visit: the church is generally open only during services. If you would like to see the portal in person, take this into account when choosing when to visit.

The Symbolic Cemetery, an open-air gallery featuring wooden artworks by young artists from the Spiš region, is also located near Letanovce. This distinguishes it from the historical traces at Kláštorisko and the church’s architecture: here, the focus is on the wooden works and their creators.

Finding Your Way Around

The closest access to Letanovský mlyn from Letanovce is via a paved road through fields. This specific route description adds a separate point of reference to the hiking and cultural highlights; it does not specify walking time or distance. Plan your day based on the particular hike, activity or visiting conditions rather than treating different destinations as one fixed itinerary.
