Sihelne brings together local history, ecclesiastical architecture, winter sports and nature. A specific starting point for orientation is the summit of Sihelniansky hrádok, which, at 993.4 metres above sea level, marks the highest point. Other clear landmarks include the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the revitalised listed bell tower and the Ski Grúniky ski area. You can consider the options separately: cultural sites and events, precise details about the slopes, or natural features such as the stream and plants.

Church, Bell Towers and Local History

The founding of Sihelné is dated to 13 August 1629. The founding charter was issued at Oravský hrad Castle. Another historical landmark is the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which was consecrated in September 1994. Its stained-glass windows depict the three Martyrs of Košice, Andrej Svorad and Benedict, and Cyril and Methodius. The history of the village and the imagery in the church therefore both offer specific points of interest for a culturally focused stay.

The revitalised listed bell tower is another prominent cultural site. A nature trail connects the bell towers in Sihelné. The individual buildings and their connection via the trail thus offer different perspectives on local architectural heritage.

Winter Sports and the Ascent of Pilsko

Ski Grúniky is located in Grúniky, Sihelné. The ski area has two blue-marked runs with a combined total length of 1,400 metres. This total length refers to both runs together. Ski lessons are available for individuals and groups. If you would like to include skiing and lessons in your trip plans, you can find specific information on slope classifications, total length and the lessons on offer. As operational details may change, check the current offer before making plans.

Sihelné is also an official alternative starting point for an ascent of Pilsko. This differs from what Ski Grúniky offers: the focus there is on the marked runs and ski lessons, while Pilsko is about the ascent. Check route conditions before travelling.

Natural Features: Summit, Stream and Plants

The summit of Sihelniansky hrádok reaches 993.4 metres above sea level and is the highest point in Sihelné. The Sihelniansky stream is another natural feature. Several fish species live in it, including brown trout and chub. The high point and the watercourse thus offer two different ways to explore nature in and around the village.

Around 50 plant species occur within the cadastral area of Sihelné; many are endangered, and several are protected. Together with the fish species mentioned, they offer a way to explore nature through both plant life and the watercourse.

Events in 2026

Events also add their own seasonal highlights. The Sihelné-Chotár walk took place for the ninth time in 2026. At this edition, participants were served Kapustnica in the school canteen. The 33rd Folklore Festival under Pilsko and Babia Góra took place on 19 July 2026. If you are visiting for an event, please check the dates for your own travel period.
