Kováčová combines spa, nature and culture: the spa is located 320 metres above sea level on the foothills of the Kremnické pohorie, northwest of the city of Zvolen. It lies outside the bustle of the city, in peaceful, green surroundings with a spa park. The area offers a range of options to shape your stay—from the spa and marked cycling routes to protected trees and cultural monuments. If you’re looking for accommodation in Kováčová, you can start by deciding whether relaxation, activity or local history should define your stay.
Spa and water
Treatment at Kúpele Kováčová is based on medium-mineralised sulphate-bicarbonate calcium-magnesium water, with elevated fluoride content and a temperature of 48.5 °C. The spa grounds also include Kováčovský rybník, a peaceful spot for relaxation and sport fishing. Separate arrangements may be required for fishing; check in advance.
Holidaypark Kováčová has various hydromassage features and a 60-metre indoor water slide with a timing device, as well as light and sound effects. As facilities may change, check the latest information before your visit. Aqua aerobics, aqua dance, sessions with a physiotherapist and baby swimming are regularly offered there. Schedules may change, so check the current timetable when planning your visit.
Nature, trails and cycling
The area around Kováčová is ideal for walks and hikes in nature. For cycling, the area offers varied terrain and numerous marked cycling routes, ranging from routes for recreational cyclists to options for more serious athletes. Route conditions may change; check them before setting out. The area is also suitable for horseback riding. If you’re looking for a specific provider, check availability and services in advance.
A special natural attraction is Duby v Kováčovej: two majestic pedunculate oaks (Quercus robur), considered remnants of the original forest. They stand west of the centre of Kováčová, in the B holiday-home area, on the southeastern foothills of the Kremnické pohorie. The trees were protected in 1987; they are estimated to be more than 200 years old. The year they were protected and their age describe different things: one is a fixed date, the other an estimate.
To reach the Duby v Kováčovej educational trail, take the bus to the Kováčová, obecný úrad stop. From there, walk 1.3 kilometres west, with an elevation gain of 73 metres, to the holiday-home area. This divides the journey into a bus ride followed by a walk.
Culture and excursions
A memorial house with a commemorative plaque is located at 59 Kúpeľná Street. It is protected as a national cultural monument and identified as the Detvan spa building. The Kováčová Tourist Club offers educational excursions to lesser-visited places in the surrounding area, including local protected areas, cultural and historical monuments, and natural attractions. Where possible, the excursions include an expert explanation. Individual excursions and dates may change.
This gives you several distinct interests to choose from when planning your stay: treatment with the described mineral water, leisure activities at Holidaypark, exploring the surrounding area, or discovering natural and cultural monuments. Choose hotels based on which of these aspects of Kováčová matters most to your travel plans.
