Uhorské lies in the southern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains, in the valley of the Uhorštiansky Brook. The Stolické vrchy section is nearby. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can consider nature and local history as two distinct focal points: oak forests and storks alongside the history of woodworking, older buildings and the Uhorské Reservoir. You can therefore choose your location based on whether you place greater importance on landscape, cultural history or the reservoir’s recreational role.

Forest and Wildlife

The eastern and northern parts of the Uhorské area are predominantly covered by oak forests. Edible mushrooms and wild berries grow throughout the extensive forest area, including blackberries and rosehips. White storks have been nesting in Uhorské since around 1960, successfully raising two to three young birds there every year; black storks nest in Ceriny and Farkaška. Both the forested parts of the area and the local birdlife are therefore part of Uhorské’s natural appeal.

Woodworking and Musical Tradition

In 1770, historical woodworking in Uhorské included making barrels and troughs, as well as various wooden parts for carts and ploughs. Cooperage and the production of turned wooden objects remained widespread even after the First World War. Cymbal music also developed into a popular musical tradition in Uhorské. Woodworking and music represent different aspects of local history: craft activities and a local musical tradition.

Church and Manor House

The church in Uhorské stands on a rise in the central part of the municipality, near the cemetery, and serves its religious purpose. The Neoclassical building with Baroque elements was erected between 1803 and 1808 on the site of an older wooden church dating from 1610. The former manor house was built between 1810 and 1812 as a spacious residence for the last feudal landowner, Farkaš-Szentiványi. After 1848, the municipality took over the building; it was reconstructed several times, remodelled inside and adapted to new needs. The buildings have different histories: the church centres on a new building constructed on the site of an older predecessor, while the manor house’s story centres on its later acquisition and adaptation.

Uhorské Reservoir: Recreational Role and Shoreline

The Uhorské Reservoir was built in 1960–1961 and expanded in 1982–1983; a recreational and tourist centre gradually developed alongside it. It covers an area of 3.17 hectares. The Slovak Anglers Association manages it as a carp-rearing or breeding pond; it is stocked with carp, zander and pike. One third of the shoreline is inaccessible and unsuitable for fishing. As access conditions may change, check accessibility before your visit.
