In Ratkovské Bystré, a Protestant church with a clearly documented building history, two sweet chestnut trees with distinctive measurements and several route connections sit side by side. This makes it possible to explore the area through its culture, nature and outdoor activities without combining the different themes into a single route.

Protestant Church and Building History

The Protestant church was built in 1787 on the site of an earlier church and renovated in 1855 and 1889. It is a Baroque-Classical hall church with a semicircular altar apse. The term “hall church” identifies the basic type of the interior space; the semicircular apse describes a specific feature at the altar end. Inside, there are also three Prussian vaults with stucco ornamentation. The stylistic classification, spatial form and vault design are therefore distinct aspects of the building.

The local ECAV congregation holds services on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. As service times may change, it is advisable to check the latest information if you would like to include a service in your plans.

Community Day and Programmes

“Deň obce”, or Community Day, takes place regularly every year. It features a cultural programme, a sports programme and a children’s day. These areas give Community Day a range of different themes. The programme may vary from one edition to another, and the specific dates also change. Check the dates for your travel period before planning your stay around the event.

Cycling and Hiking Trails

The signposted cycling route 5575, “Cez Železník”, runs from Tisovec via Sedlo Dielik, Nemcová and Škaredá to Ratkovské Bystré. The village is the destination of this described route. Conditions and access rules may change; check the latest information before setting out by bike.

Another cycling route, the “Cyklocesta Márie Séči”, passes through Ratkovské Bystré, but was not built as a stand-alone route. This is a different route connection from route 5575, which ends here. For hikers, the “Náučný chodník k Muránskemu hradu” nature trail is among the routes that cross the area. The three descriptions are therefore specific and distinct: one cycling route ends in the village, another passes through it, and a nature trail crosses the area. Route conditions and markings may change; check the latest information before setting off.

Sweet Chestnut Trees with Different Measurements

“Gaštany v Ratkovskom Bystrom” consists of two sweet chestnut trees. Their trunk circumferences are 515 and 345 centimetres, and their crown diameters are 15 and 19 metres. The measurements reveal an interesting difference: the tree with the larger trunk circumference has the smaller crown diameter, while the second tree has a wider-spreading crown. This makes it possible to describe the distinctive features of the two chestnut trees through separate, specific characteristics.
