Thermal waters, trails and churches offer different ways to shape a stay in Lukovo. In the cadastral area of Lukovo, Lukovska Banja is the central area for spa facilities. There, balneotherapy baths and climatotherapy treatments are offered alongside natural thermal pools; the trails to the Church of St. George provide another option to consider when planning your stay. You can first decide whether your stay will focus more on thermal waters, a church destination or a longer route.
Thermal Waters in Several Forms
King Milutin Bath is a specialized facility for balneotherapy baths. There you can bathe in natural thermal mineral water containing sodium, calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate, enriched with sulfur and carbon dioxide. The climate therapy center in Lukovska Banja also uses thermal water and natural inhalations for climatotherapy treatments. The natural inhalatorium of Lukovska Banja is located on the riverbank.
The “Virovi” or “Vidarice” pools are small natural pools where thermal mineral water emerges spontaneously at 33 to 44 °C. On a different scale, the “Lukovo” ecological zone encompasses 28 springs and boreholes, with water temperatures ranging from 28 to 68 °C. These temperature ranges therefore refer to different locations and offerings. If you plan to visit a particular facility or pool, check the relevant access and water conditions in advance; they may vary.
Trails and Viewpoints
Lukovska Banja has seven health trails leading in seven directions. Several trails lead to the Church of St. George: the shorter and steeper one is 900 m long, while the longer one measures 2,400 m. When choosing, consider both the trail length and the elevation expressly noted for the shorter trail. The church stands on Nenadov Kamen above the center of Lukovska Banja. There is a viewpoint at the church, suitable for photographing the surrounding landscape.
A different trail length is offered by the route from the center of Lukovska Banja via Vardište to the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Lukovo: it is 15 km long. It leads to a different church destination and is considerably longer than the trails to the Church of St. George. Conditions on the shorter trails may change; check the latest trail and access information before setting out.
Churches and Regional Cuisine
The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Lukovo was restored in 1895. It preserves an iconostasis with icons and murals whose style reflects post-Byzantine artistic trends with Baroque elements in aesthetics and iconography. The restoration year and the preserved furnishings offer different points of historical interest: the restoration on the one hand, and the artistic design on the other.
One regional dining option is the “Lukovske kolibe” ethno restaurant. It serves specialties from the Kopaonik area prepared under a sač. Its opening hours and menu may change; if you plan to visit, check the current offerings in advance.
You can plan a visit to Lukovo around different priorities: thermal waters and spa treatments, shorter trails with a stated elevation gain, or a longer route to a different church destination. The individual distances and temperature ranges help distinguish these options rather than grouping them into a single excursion.
