Blace brings together visual art and several cultural events whose calendars appeal to visitors at different times of the year. The art colony, Easter folklore festival and plum festival each have a different focus; at the southeastern edge of town, the BlaÄŤko Lake adds a wetland landscape. When planning your trip, both a cultural event and the character of the town may therefore be deciding factors.

Location on the Blatašnica

Blace lies on the Blatašnica, about 12 km upstream from its confluence with the Rasina. The road directions also provide a regional point of reference: Blace is a road junction on routes toward Kosovo and Metohija, Kopaonik, Kruševac and Prokuplje. The cultural center and riverside location offer more specific local points of reference, complementing this broader regional picture.

Visual art in two formats

The “Duga” visual arts workshop offers people of different age groups training in visual art. The “Blace” art colony, by contrast, is an event that brings together academic painters, amateur painters and guests. It was first held in 2005 and has the status of a permanent cultural event at the municipal level in Blace. The dates of individual editions may vary.

The two offerings therefore have different emphases: the workshop focuses on artistic training, while the colony brings different painters together at an event. If you are considering Blace for its visual arts, this distinction can help you decide whether you are more interested in training or in the character of the art colony.

Festivals with different calendars

The Easter Folklore Festival has been held since 2010 in connection with Orthodox Easter; its timing follows that calendar. It features folklore ensembles from Serbia and, occasionally, guests from abroad. The participating groups vary from one edition to the next. The recurring plum festival “Dani šljive,” by contrast, takes place in Blace in late August.

The 24th edition of “Dani šljive” was scheduled for August 27–29, 2026. The program for that edition included an international handball tournament for younger age groups at the “Čika Duško Jovanović” sports hall, as well as a traditional cooking competition involving local communities. These program details apply to 2026 and do not describe future editions.

Cultural center and summer of culture

The “Drainac” Cultural Center in Blace has a multipurpose cinema and theater hall with around 500 seats. During the 2025 Summer of Culture, free cultural and artistic events were held outdoors in front of the cultural center on several days each week. The Summer of Culture is seasonal, and its program may change. Check the dates for the year of your trip.

BlaÄŤko Lake at the edge of town

BlaÄŤko Lake lies directly at the southeastern edge of the settlement. Its surroundings are marshy and characterized by reeds, cattails and other wetland vegetation. Alongside its cultural events, this offers another perspective on Blace: a landscape defined by wetland vegetation and the transition between the settlement and marshland.
