The Treasure of Domagnano, a gold Ostrogothic jewellery set, was found in Lagucci in 1892. The discovery links Domagnano to the Ostrogothic period and provides a tangible starting point for the town’s history.

Traces from Several Eras

Remains from Roman times, coins and jewellery found in the Domagnano area show that the Castello di Domagnano was already inhabited in Roman times. The Villa di Domagnano is associated with Roman and Gothic settlements. An old Malatesta fortress stands on Monte Lupo, in the locality of Torraccia di Domagnano. It previously served as a Lombard watchtower; in 1463, it passed to San Marino. The finds, settlement connections and history of the fortress each offer a distinct way to explore the Castello’s past.

Cà Vagnetto Arboretum

The Cà Vagnetto Arboretum has 2,000 plants. Its facilities include a lawn, toilets and a large covered area with tables and benches. Thanks to its adaptability, it can also be used by people with disabilities. If you plan to use these facilities during your visit, check their current status beforehand: local facilities may change.

A Themed Trail, Not a Circular Route

The Sentiero Ausa-Laiala-Ferrovia is themed trail no. 4 of the Cammino del Titano and the only themed trail that does not follow a circular route between the Castello di Serravalle and the Castello di Domagnano. After crossing Parco Laiala, the trail reaches Domagnano via the former railway line, which is now a walking and cycling path. The trail description therefore links a route through a park with the use of the former railway line. If you plan to take the trail, check current trail conditions before setting out.

Festivals with Specific Dates

The traditional Festa del Castello di Domagnano was announced for 27–30 June 2024. The programme listed music, games for children of all ages, a literary salon and food stalls. The Festa di Torraccia announced for 2025 was scheduled to take place at Parco di Montelupo, Strada di Monte Olivo 124, in Domagnano-Torraccia; future editions may be organised differently. If you would like to attend a festival, check the dates in the current local calendar.

In the Wider Destination of San Marino

Monte Titano also offers a cultural perspective on the wider destination of San Marino. The Second Tower, also known as the Castello della Cesta, stands at 755 metres above sea level on the highest peak of Monte Titano. It forms the middle section of a panoramic route connecting San Marino’s three historic towers. The tower houses the Museum of Ancient Arms, with around 700 exhibits from different types and periods. The San Marino Historic Centre and Mount Titano World Heritage Site covers 55 hectares, including Monte Titano and the historic centre of San Marino. The World Heritage Site’s fortifications include towers, walls, gates and bastions.
