Three historical phases of development shape the medieval Curtea Domnească. In addition, there is a museum whose founding and opening to the public took place in successive years, Casa Ghica in the historic center, and Parcul Copou, which covers about 11 hectares. Wassluy thus brings together traces of cultural history and a public dendrological garden.

Years and Different Traces of Time

The Muzeul Județean „Ștefan cel Mare“ Vaslui was founded in 1974 as a museum of history and ethnography and opened to the public in 1975. Since 2018, it has had a newly created and modernized permanent exhibition; its contents may continue to evolve. The sequence of years distinguishes the museum’s founding from its opening to the public, while 2018 marks a later renewal of the exhibition. This makes it possible to distinguish the museum’s institutional history from the development of its permanent exhibition.

The Curtea Domnească in Vaslui developed over three historical phases. The medieval complex is therefore notable for its multi-phase development. This is a different approach from the dated milestones of the museum: here, the focus is on the development of a complex, whereas there, it is on founding, opening to the public and later modernization. If you are interested in architectural history, this distinction offers a practical point of reference: would you like to consider a single date or a development spanning several phases?

Casa Ghica is located in the historic center of Vaslui. This neoclassical historic monument is also the city’s oldest secular building. Its classification offers two perspectives: its style draws attention to the architecture, while its designation as the oldest secular building highlights the house’s historical status. Compared with the medieval Curtea Domnească, both the architectural classification and the type of history being described are therefore different.

A Green Touch in Vaslui

Parcul Copou, a public dendrological garden covering about 11 hectares, lies in the north of Vaslui. Its approximate size gives the garden a tangible scale; the term “dendrological” points to its botanical focus. As a public garden, it brings nature into the exploration of the city and offers a different point of interest from the historic buildings. In Wassluy, traces of cultural history and a clearly defined green space thus sit side by side.

Culture on the Events Calendar

Zilele Culturale ale Municipiului Vaslui is a program held annually in mid-August. Its areas of focus include local history, literature and visual arts, as well as holiday workshops, sports, astronomy and performing arts. The program thus brings together historical and literary themes with artistic, sporting and astronomical events. If you would like to plan your trip around this program, check the specific dates and program areas in advance: these may change. The event date offers a different planning reference from the museum, historic buildings and garden, whose described features are not tied to an annual event date.
