Hohe Rinne (Păltiniș) combines mountain scenery with hiking trails, winter sports and historic sites. Dense forests, peaks and meadows shape the surrounding landscape. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Hohe Rinne, you can first choose what interests you most: hiking, winter activities or cultural history.

Hiking Trails, Forests and Views

Hohe Rinne lies in the heart of the Cindrel Mountains. Its many hiking trails include a route to Bătrâna Peak. The Păltiniș loop via Poiana Găujoara passes through spruce and coniferous forests and offers views of the Făgăraș Mountains, the city of Sibiu and the Cindrel Mountains. This route brings together forest sections and views of three different destinations.

A marked trail leads from Stațiunea Păltiniș via Poiana Găujoara to Șaua Bătrâna. It can also be used for ski touring in winter and is suitable for families with children and pets. This offers different options: a loop with forest and views, and a marked route that can also be used for ski touring in winter.

Poiana Oncești lies along the Primprejurul Păltinișului route. In spring, the meadow, with its crocuses and snowdrops, becomes a garden landscape. This seasonal bloom adds a distinctive touch alongside hikes through forests and mountain scenery.

Winter Activities and Choosing a Tour

Hohe Rinne has ski runs in the low to intermediate difficulty range. Winter activities also include artificial snowmaking, night lighting and a snow fun park. The ski runs and the marked ski touring route offer different ways to spend time outdoors in winter: one offers downhill skiing, while the other is a tour along the trail via Poiana Găujoara to Șaua Bătrâna.

You can also combine part of a hike with a chairlift ride: on the Primprejurul Păltinișului route, hikers can shorten the ascent to Vf. Oncești by taking the chairlift from its station in Păltiniș. Check the chairlift’s availability and operating conditions locally before including it in your plans.

Historic Buildings and Constantin Noica

Historic buildings include Casa turiștilor, dating from 1894, Casa medicilor, dating from 1895, and Sala Monaco, dating from 1898. All three are designated historic monuments. These individually named buildings provide concrete points of reference for the history of the area, each with a clearly distinct date.

The church of Schitul de la Păltiniș is built of fir wood and roofed with shingles. Its roof design echoes the style of old Transylvanian wooden churches. The grave of philosopher Constantin Noica, who spent the last 13 years of his life in Păltiniș, lies right next to the schitul. The architecture and his life story offer two different ways to explore the area’s cultural history.
