Ceraşu is a submontane settlement surrounded by ridges and peaks: Vârful lui Crai, Clăbucetul, Leurdeanul, Căprioru and Chimniți are among the named heights. This offers several ways to plan your trip, with a focus on hiking, landscapes and historic fortifications. Each destination and route has its own name, so you can choose according to your interests.
Mountain Landscapes and Hiking Trails
Hikes to Vârful lui Crai are offered in the Ceraşu area. The peak is listed at 1,473 metres; elevation figures may vary slightly depending on the measurement source. Another hiking direction leads to the valley of the Basca River. This gives you a named peak and a river valley as two distinct destinations to choose from.
The tourist trail from Slon runs through the Teleajen Subcarpathians, along the Drajna River, through the Tătaru Mountains and over Dealul Grohotișului. Another route, Măneciu–Vârful lui Crai–Tabla Buții, is marked with a blue cross. The trail from Măneciu to Tabla Buții leads to a pass between Ciucaș and the Tătaru Mare ridge. Today, access to Pasul Tabla Buții is via forest roads and tourist trails.
Other designated hiking trails include Cerașu–Ciuga–Vf. Craiu–Tabla Buții, Cerașu–Ciuga–Schinda–Boncuța–Valea Stânii and Cerașu–Valea Lespezii–Stângaciu–Gămălie. Check local trail conditions before your trip. When choosing between these options, you can consider the destinations and route layouts rather than assume a particular duration or level of difficulty.
Fortifications and Traces of History
The medieval fortress “Cetatea medievală de la Slon – La Ciuga” is located in La Ciuga, in the village of Slon, within the Ceraşu administrative unit and the Dealul Grohotișului area. The tourist trail also includes the La Cinga fortification, which dates back to the 9th century. The Tabla Buții fortress is dated to the 13th–16th centuries.
At Pasul Tabla Buții, there are trenches, shelters and impact craters from battles fought there; the Heroes’ Cemetery is also located there. The fortifications and the traces at the pass offer different points of reference for understanding the historic sites around Ceraşu. Ceraşu also has houses with traditional architecture, though their condition can vary from one building to another.
Nature and Other Interests
Northern Ceraşu has mountainous characteristics. Spruce, fir and beech dominate the vegetation. There are also nature conservation areas in the villages: Valea Borului is home to a bear and wild boar reserve, while Valea Lespezii has a fauna reserve. These places add specific nature-related points of interest to the landscape.
The Teleajen River may also be of interest to visitors who enjoy fishing: it is considered to be of particular fishing interest and has a population of brown trout. If you plan to fish, check the applicable rules and conditions in advance. This allows you to choose different focuses for your trip, from the peak and hiking trails to the fortifications, landscapes and river.
