Breaza is located on a terrace 50 to 60 metres above the Prahova River. The town lies at an altitude of 480 to 600 metres and is comparatively sheltered from the heavy road traffic in the Prahova Valley. Getting There and Location

Churches, Monuments, and Crafts
Biserica Sf. Nicolae in Breaza de Jos is a church and cemetery site dating from 1777. Biserica Sfântul Nicolae in Breaza de Sus also dates from 1777. It preserves interior frescoes, exterior decorations, and a shingle roof, and is considered the oldest historic monument in the town. Biserica din Capu Câmpului is dedicated to “Schimbarea la Faţă”: it was built of stone in 1892 on the site of a small wooden church built around 1800.
Poarta Brâncoveanu marks the entrance to Parcul Brâncoveanu and is depicted on the coat of arms of the town of Breaza. Monumentul Celor Trei Regi was created in 1934 in the modernist style of the Ion T. Aldea era. Monumentul Eroilor din Breaza de Jos is a work by sculptor Emil Becker. These monuments highlight different themes: civic symbolism, an interwar structure, and the memory of Breaza’s war heroes.
Conacul Basarab-Brâncoveanu in the centre of Breaza is a ruin and a testament to the town’s history. It is privately owned and not open to visitors. The local textile tradition also has its own distinctive features: the post-war Ia de Breaza was produced with a more stylised pattern after the “Arta Casnica” cooperative was founded in 1948. The “Crețul” collar is considered specific to Muntenia; its technique is passed down strictly from generation to generation.
Hiking Destinations and Landscape
Hiking destinations in Breaza include Crucea Eroilor on Dealul Gurga and Dealul Sinoiu. Dealul Lazului can be reached from Talea. Crucea Eroilor was erected in 1929 at an altitude of 743 metres in memory of Breaza’s war heroes. This connects the hiking destination with a specific chapter in the town’s history.
Another distinctive landscape site is Fagul Prințesei, a centuries-old beech tree in a clearing on the left bank of the Târsa stream, in Pădurea Cheia Proviţei. The trail there is marked with a red triangle, takes five hours, and is of moderate difficulty. Check trail conditions before setting out.
Access to Dealul cu Trovanti leads from the tourist information centre via Ocinei, Col. Popovici, Sunatorii, and Moldovei streets, and through the Ograda neighbourhood. It is also possible to reach the site by off-road vehicle or bicycle; check conditions in advance. Another landmark in the landscape is a row of pine trees planted in the 19th century by the then owners of the Breaza estate, the Bibescu-Brâncoveanu family. It offers expansive views south over the town and north towards the upper Târsa basin.
