Alexeni can be explored through two distinct focal points: its riverside setting and ancient oak trees, as well as its village and church history. The village lies on the left bank of the Ialomiţa River in the western part of Ialomiţa County. This gives you a clear choice when planning your trip: should nature, architecture, or the village’s development over time shape your stay?

Riverside Setting and Oak Trees

The Pădurea Alexeni natural monument comprises 56 ancient oaks, including 25 that are more than 200 years old. The total number of trees and their ages tell two different sides of the same natural monument: the 56 trees show its scale, while the 25 particularly old oaks offer a long historical perspective. This gives Alexeni a distinct natural appeal as a destination, setting it apart from the village’s buildings and historical traces. Its location on the left bank of the Ialomiţa adds a precise landscape setting to the nature theme. The focus is on a stand of oaks, not just a single old tree.

Church and Historical Layers

The parish church, Biserica Sfântul Nicolae, was built by the village community between 1936 and 1938. Its Neo-Romanesque style, trefoil plan, and three towers describe different aspects of its architecture: style, floor plan, and overall form. A trefoil plan features three apses, or apse-like endings to the church interior; this makes the term easier to understand even without prior knowledge of architecture. The earlier building history includes a previously documented masonry church commissioned by Barbu Slătineanu in 1815. This earlier church should be distinguished from the 1930s parish church. Alexeni was first documented in 1431. Several crosses from the 19th century have also been preserved in the old village cemetery. The dates 1431, 1815, and 1936–1938 mark distinct layers: the first documentary mention, an earlier church building, and the interwar parish church. The dates therefore span from a documentary mention in the 15th century to the 1930s church; the 1815 building and the 19th-century crosses add the intervening historical layers.

Getting There and Choosing Where to Stay

Transport connections can also be understood through two specific routes: the Urziceni–Slobozia railway line passes through Alexeni, as does the DN2A national road between Urziceni and Constanţa. The route names help distinguish the modes of transport: Urziceni–Slobozia is the railway, while Urziceni–Constanţa is the road. Which connection suits your onward journey depends on your own plans. If you are considering travelling by train, check the current timetable; for road travel, follow your planned route.

When looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Alexeni, first decide whether nature or local history should shape your stay. The riverside setting and oak trees offer a landscape-focused experience; the church, earlier building phase, first documentary mention, and cemetery crosses provide different historical points of interest. You can then match the rail or road connection to your travel plans.
