The Ciripa–Moara Dracului hiking route takes about two hours from the Ciripa forestry post to the waterfall. It starts in Valea Drăganului at an altitude of 1,046 metres. Weather and forestry access conditions can affect route conditions. Other trails lead towards Cabana Vlădeasa or start at the CFR railway stop in the village. The different starting points and trail information provide practical guidance for planning your excursion.

The Village and Landscape along the Drăgan

The access road crosses the railway line and the Crișul Repede River before reaching Valea Drăganului. After entering the village, it follows the left bank of the Drăgan River. Lacul Drăgan is also in Valea Drăganului, where the Drăgan and Sebeșel rivers meet.

Hiking Trails with Different Starting Points

The approximate duration of the route to Moara Dracului Waterfall is specified: it takes about two hours from the Ciripa forestry post. The waterfall lies on the western slope of the Vlădeasa Mountains, near Valea Drăganului and Stâna de Vale. The hike therefore has a specific starting point and a clear destination; when planning, bear in mind that weather and forestry access can affect route conditions.

A hiking trail in Valea Drăganului starts at the Valea Drăganului CFR railway stop, at an altitude of about 550 metres. This is a different landmark from the Ciripa forestry post at 1,046 metres, where the route to the waterfall begins.

The marked route from Valea Drăganului to Cabana Vlădeasa passes through Vișagu and Piatra Bănișorului. For orientation, it initially follows the county road towards Lunca Vișagului and leaves it after 1.5 kilometres at the junction with the road to Tranișu. As local access routes may change, check the route before setting out on your hike. A trail descending from Vlădeasa into Valea Drăganului also includes Piatra Bănișorului and runs entirely along forestry roads.

Piatra Bănișorului and the Church

Piatra Bănișorului is a rock formation with a cross at its summit. The site recalls the battles from the time of Avram Iancu; the cross there commemorates the heroes from Vișagu. This landmark in the landscape is thus linked to local remembrance, which you can also encounter while hiking the marked route to Cabana Vlădeasa.

A cultural addition in the village is the Orthodox Church of Valea Drăganului. It was built between 1972 and 1982, and its design was inspired by the Church of Curtea de Argeș. The construction period and architectural inspiration are two specific points of reference that distinguish a visit to the church from the hiking destinations and their respective route details.

The Lake and Other Activities

Organised kayak tours are regularly held on Lacul Drăgan. If you would like to include this activity in your plans, check availability before your trip. The lake is described geographically by its location at the confluence of the Drăgan and Sebeșel rivers; the kayak tours are a separate way to experience it.

WildWheels rents ATVs in Valea Drăganului for leisurely rides, excursions, tours, and team-building activities. Here, too, it is advisable to check availability before you arrive. The options described therefore range from hikes with specific starting points to organised kayak tours and ATV activities. To help you choose, first decide whether you want to focus on a particular hiking trail, the lakeside landscape, or a motorised tour.
