A change of riverbank and a church with several construction phases give Buchin a distinct historical focus. The village is now on the right bank of the Timiş; the old village site was on the left. Relocation to the current site began after 1840. Buchin thus brings together the history of a settlement’s relocation and traces of a long history of local habitation.

The Church and Local History

The “Naşterea Maicii Domnului” church stands in the village centre. It was built of stone and fired brick in 1854–1855. Its wooden predecessor dated from 1755 and was destroyed by fire in 1788 during a Turkish incursion. The present church is 19 metres long and 8 metres wide. Its described architectural features include a semi-cylindrical vault covered with beaver-tail tiles and roof tiles, and a tower covered with galvanised sheet metal. The iconostasis is made of brick; the floor is finished in cement and mosaic.

The restoration history also spans several stages: Petru Lazăr restored the wall paintings in 1949. After the interior paintings were renovated, the church was reconsecrated in 1989; a further consecration followed in 2008 after exterior renovations. There is also a tomb with a crypt in front of the Orthodox church in the centre.

Local history extends beyond these construction phases. Traces of the approximately 4,000-year-old Coţofeni culture were found at the “Cucuiul lui Ostivăr” archaeological site. The “Căluşaru” folk ensemble preserved the traditions of dance and folk games.

Lindenfeld and Routes in the Municipality

The wider municipal area also includes Lindenfeld, a mountain village founded in 1828 by Pemii from the Klattau region. It lies at an altitude of 760 metres in the Semenic Mountains, giving it a different landscape from Buchin’s village centre. A 2021 report describes the Banat mountain section of the Via Transilvanica as reaching Lindenfeld. A report on the Terra Banatica section lists walking, horseback riding and cycling as ways to travel it. As routes may change, check the current route before travelling.

A hiking trail connects Lindenfeld with Gărâna; walking the route takes approximately three and a half hours one way. Conditions may vary seasonally, and the time estimate applies to the outward journey. To reach Lindenfeld by car, the access road from Caransebeş goes via Buchin and Poiana. Poiana and Lindenfeld are also connected to the municipal seat of Buchin by the DC 13 municipal road. Road conditions and accessibility may change; check them before driving. The route information answers different planning questions: the hiking trail comes with an approximate walking time, while several modes of transport are listed for the Via Transilvanica.
