In the centre of Belciugatele village, on the main road, stands the parish church of Adormirea Maicii Domnului. For anglers, Candeasca Lakes has three ponds with different fishing rules; archaeological settlement remains can also be found in the commune. This brings together three distinct topics for trip planning: village church architecture, fishing and settlement history.

The parish church in the village centre

The church’s interior and exterior paintings were renewed in 1998–1999 by the painter Duță Petre. The single-nave layout and the single tower above the naos are two specific features of the building. The naos is the central space of the church; the information about the tower describes its position in the building. The layout and tower position can therefore be considered as separate aspects of the architecture, while the renewal of the paintings marks a dated change. Visitors interested in sacred architecture will find both a description of the building’s structure and a specific period in its decorative history.

Fishing at Candeasca Lakes

The three fishing ponds offer two types of fishing: fishing with catch retention is permitted at two ponds, while the third is designated for catch-and-release. Fishing methods and facilities address different planning questions. The site has a gravel access road and customer parking. Facilities include fishing spots with shelters, spots with huts, and purpose-built barbecue areas. Electricity and lighting are available throughout the pond grounds. The fishing rules and available facilities can therefore each be considered separately when planning a visit.

Landscape and bodies of water in the commune

The commune of Belciugatele lies in the transition zone between the Vlăsiei Plains to the west and the Mostiștea area to the east. This west–east orientation illustrates the landscape setting: the plain represents the western reference point, and the Mostiștea area the eastern one; Belciugatele lies between them. The recreational fishing water known as Valea Iazurilor (Candeasca Lake) is located in Candeasca, in the commune of Belciugatele. Check access and operating conditions before travelling.

Archaeological settlement remains

Traces of a settlement from the 4th century AD were discovered within the commune on the left bank of the Mostiștea, one kilometre south of Măriuța. This settlement was overlain by a Dridu-type settlement. The 4th-century date refers to the first settlement find; the settlement above it is classified as Dridu type.

At Matara, near the Mostiștea River north of Mataraua village, there is a settlement from the La Tène period. The location details help distinguish the two settlement sites: one is on the left bank of the Mostiștea, south of Măriuța; the other is near Matara, north of Mataraua. Together, they illustrate different archaeological connections within the commune, while the parish church offers a separate way to explore the village’s history.
