Finiș Commune lies at the foot of the Codru-Moma Mountains and on the left bank of the Crișul Negru. Forests, pastureland and agricultural areas make up most of the commune. When planning your trip, you can weigh two specific priorities: landscapes and outdoor activities, or historical and cultural themes connected with Finiș. When looking for a holiday rental in Finiș Commune, it may help to consider which of these priorities will be the deciding factor for your trip.

Landscapes and outdoor activities

The terrain is varied: the Valea Finișului and smaller watercourses shape steep slopes, low plateaus and wooded ridges. In the ROSCI 0042 Codru Moma protected area, beech forests, oak-hornbeam forests, riparian forests, and rocky and steep-slope habitats are among the protected habitats. Protected wolves, brown bears and lynxes have also been recorded in the Codru Moma protected area associated with Finiș.

The varied natural landscape offers favourable conditions for rural tourism, hiking and outdoor activities. In the Valea Finișului area, you can go hiking, horse riding, travel in non-motorised vehicles and cycle. Themed trails are not marked locally. If you are planning a hike or cycle ride, bear this in mind when finding your way.

Sub Piatra Finișului and Vârful Devii are designated viewpoints in Finiș. As well as activities in the landscape, these two specifically named viewpoints can therefore be considered as separate interests when planning your trip.

Fortress, architectural history and local culture

South of the village of Finiș lies the archaeological site Cetatea medievală de la Finiș, also known as Cetatea Belovar and cetatea lui Bella. The fortress dates from the 13th to 14th century. Its strategic location served to defend the access route to Oradea. On three sides, the site is surrounded by a defensive ditch 15 metres wide and 8 metres deep—a striking detail of its medieval fortifications.

Schitul Huta is also part of the area’s architectural history: it was built in 1927 and restored in 1973. If you are planning a visit, check access locally. The Muzeul Satului din Finiș houses objects that are more than 100 years old. Finiș is also associated with violin making and the Vioara cu goarnă, the so-called horn violin. This tradition is also associated with Budureasa and Lazuri de Roșia.

Getting there and practical information

The main road access to Finiș is via county road DJ 764 on the Beiuș–Finiș–Stâncești route. No railway line runs through Finiș; the nearest railway station is in Beiuș and has limited connections. Oradea International Airport is about 75 kilometres northwest of Finiș and can be reached via DN76 and E79.

To reach Schitul Huta, the route from Beiuș follows county road DJ764F towards Finiș (4 kilometres), followed by a further 12 kilometres of forest road. As road conditions can change, check the route before setting off and confirm access to Schitul locally.
