Comuna Șpring is located in the Podișul Secașelor in the southeast of Alba County. Its cultural profile includes churches and stonework in Vingard, as well as an ethnographic exhibition in Șpring; floodplains and deciduous forest are also part of the commune’s landscape. This gives you several themes to choose from when planning your trip: architectural history, rural furniture culture and scenery. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can start by considering which of these aspects you would like to shape your stay.

Churches and Rural Culture

According to an inscription on the west portal, the towerless late Gothic church in Vingard was built in 1461. The same inscription names Johannes Gereb de Vingard as the church’s patron. Valuable stonework can be found on the south portal and west façade. Several specific features thus complement one another: the architectural style, the year and named patron in the inscription, and the stonework located in two places.

The wooden church “Cuvioasa Paraschiva” is also in Vingard. It dates from the 18th century and was extended in 1820. These dates distinguish it from the late Gothic church: the inscription there gives 1461 as the year it was built, while here the 18th century and the 1820 extension are part of its architectural history. The commune therefore has two clearly distinct historical periods represented in its churches.

The ethnographic exhibition in Șpring displays traditional rural furniture: beds, cupboards, tables, chairs and chests of drawers. Its focus is therefore on household furnishings rather than religious architecture. This offers a different cultural perspective from the churches in Vingard: furniture and everyday objects on the one hand, architectural history and stonework on the other.

Floodplains and Deciduous Forest

The commune’s territory lies in the deciduous forest zone, where oak, hornbeam, elm, lime and field maple are found. Floodplains stretch along the watercourse that runs through the commune’s four constituent villages. These details describe different aspects of the landscape: the tree species characterize the deciduous forest zone, while the floodplains are associated with the watercourse. If you are interested in nature as well as culture, the forest zone and floodplains offer a second perspective on Comuna Șpring.

Events and Getting There

The 2026 municipal calendar lists “Colindăm Comuna Şpring!” in December as a traditional Christmas carol festival at the Șpring Cultural Centre. If you are planning your trip around the event, check the exact date and programme for that year.

The route of county road DJ 106I documented in 2021 runs from DN 1 via Cunța, Drașov, Șpring and Vingard to Ghirbom, and continues to DJ 107 near Berghin. If you are considering this road for your journey, check the current road conditions before setting off.
