Explore Monte via the Pardelhas–Monte municipal walking trail, which forms part of a connection between named places. The route links the centre of Murtosa in the parish of Pardelhas with the parish of Monte. This distinction is useful when planning: Pardelhas is one endpoint, Monte the other, while the route has its own points of reference within Monte. The name Pardelhas–Monte keeps both sides of the connection in view. If you want to explore the area, you can follow this route and add stops based on your interest in churches or food.

Walking trail and directions

The trail already runs through the parish of Monte at Parque da Saldida; from there, it passes through the village centre. It then passes Capela de Santa Luzia and continues north to Arribação. This gives you four distinct points of reference: the park, the village centre, the chapel and Arribação. This sequence is useful when choosing your route, as it shows which section explicitly passes through Monte and where the trail goes next. Santa Luzia is the landmark the trail passes; Arribação marks the route’s continuation northwards.

Churches and local history

For a direct connection to the route, Capela de Santa Luzia is the named church that the trail passes. Igreja Paroquial de Santo António do Monte offers a separate glimpse into the area’s history. It was blessed on 28 August 1929 and inaugurated the following day. It replaced Capela de Santo António as a place of worship; that chapel is now called Capela de Santa Luzia. The reason was practical: the chapel had become too small for the growing number of worshippers.

Seasonal mobility and food

In the municipality of Murtosa, the council provides free bicycles for visitors during the summer season until early September. As this is a seasonal service, check the latest operating dates before travelling.

Recommended culinary experiences in Monte include Guedes’s “pastéis de nata”. If you would like to add this recommendation to your plans, it is best to check the current opening status before making a special trip. This recommendation adds a distinct culinary focus alongside the walking trail and churches.

Past festivals in Monte

A previous edition of “Semana do Catrazana” in the parish of Monte ran from 9 to 16 June. It honoured the local people, the “Catrazanas”, and included religious celebrations for the patron saint Santo António, as well as cultural and sporting activities. As part of Semana, the traditional Torneio de Malha took place at Parque de Lazer da Arribação. In June 2026, the Arraial dos Santos Populares at Casa das Pinheiras was also open to the public.
