Dominikowo offers two distinct highlights: the lake and its shoreline, and the Church of the Assumption of Mary with its architectural and decorative history. The west shore also has a beach, a swimming area and a campsite. Those weighing up the landscape, hiking and culture will find clear differences between the lakeshore, the trails and the historic building here.

Lake and Shoreline

The lake lies in a picturesque valley at the town. It covers 78 hectares and is 17 metres deep. It is also called Dominikowo or Dominikowskie, and is additionally known as Dominikowo Duże. The shores are surrounded by forests, except for a short stretch near the village. The Słopica flows through the lake and is only a small stream at this point.

Beach and Hiking Trails

A beach lies on the west shore next to Dominikowo. In summer, it is often visited by residents of Drawno, people from the surrounding area and tourists. There is also a swimming area and a campsite on the west shore, north of the built-up area. If you plan to visit the beach or swimming area, check current access in advance.

The blue P8 hiking trail runs from Nowa Korytnica to Drawno and follows the north shore of the lake. A hiking trail follows the valley containing the Dominikowo lakes, picturesquely set among forests, and offers views of the lakes.

A path by the lake first climbs a high, steep slope, then descends to a path directly along the shore. When planning your day, factor in this change in elevation; the path does not run on level ground beside the water all the way. At kilometre 11.1, a hiking trail reaches the campsite in Dominikowo.

Romanesque Church and Historic Furnishings

The church in Dominikowo is a Romanesque fieldstone church from the early 14th century, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The dedication indicates its religious association, while the Romanesque classification describes its architectural style and period. It was altered in the 17th century. The half-timbered entrance porch introduces a different construction style into the fieldstone building; the free-standing square bell tower is a separate element. Thus, Romanesque origins and later alterations coexist in the same church building.

The church has valuable Mannerist furnishings from the early 17th century. The main altar dates from 1610 and is decorated with reliefs. The timeline is important: 1610 refers to the main altar, while the church building dates from the early 14th century.
