Bonin offers several distinct points of interest for an exploratory visit: the neo-Gothic church “Kościół pw. św. Józefa”, the “Dwór” with its eclectic features, the Folwark with its farm buildings, and a cycling route that runs through the village. Next to the Dwór is a park with a woodland character and old trees, mainly oaks. An equestrian centre is currently operating on the Folwark grounds. Local themes therefore range from ecclesiastical art and manor farm history to cycling.

The church and local names

The church “Kościół pw. św. Józefa” was built in 1845 and is neo-Gothic in style. It contains a 17th-century Mannerist altar from an older church. The building and its furnishings thus reflect different periods: the church dates from the 19th century, while the altar is an older furnishing. Here, neo-Gothic describes the architecture, and Mannerist describes the altar’s design; the terms therefore refer to different parts of the same building. An old building known as “dom rzemiosła” also stands near the church.

The Dwór and park

The “Dwór” in Bonin was built in the 19th century and features eclectic elements. Eclectic architecture draws on design elements from different styles; this distinguishes the Dwór from the neo-Gothic church without assigning the same stylistic description to both buildings. A park with a woodland character lies directly next to the Dwór. Old trees, mainly oaks, grow there. Two distinct features of the village are thus found side by side: the building’s architecture and the park’s trees.

Folwark: complex and present-day use

The “Folwark w Boninie” consists of farm buildings and forms part of a manor farm and manor house complex established in the first half of the 19th century. A barn and a cowshed at the Folwark are each associated with the year 1880. An equestrian centre is currently operating on the Folwark grounds. The historic context of the farm buildings thus meets the present-day use of the same grounds.

Cycling route and architectural history

The “Rowerem po Ziemi Choszczeńskiej” cycling route is 38 kilometres long and passes through Bonin. It offers a different focus from the buildings: the church, Dwór and Folwark represent architectural history, while the cycling route is about a journey through the village. Visitors choosing Bonin based on their travel interests can therefore distinguish between a focus on architecture and history and one on cycling.

Choszczeński: historic buildings in Choszczno

The wider Choszczeński destination also includes historic buildings in Choszczno. The Roman Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Choszczno was built in the 14th century by the Knights Hospitaller. The church contains a ceramic relief of the Tree of Jesse depicting the genealogy of Christ and a 15th-century epitaph for the mayor Mikołaj Rebentisch. The defensive walls of Choszczno date from the 14th and 15th centuries. A Gothic tower belonging to the barbican outwork of the Stone Gate complex is preserved at the corner of Piastowska and Wolności Streets. These examples from Choszczno open up a distinct medieval theme within the wider destination. Bonin’s architectural history, with its church dating from 1845 and manor farm complex, offers a different architectural focus.
