Anyone looking for accommodation in Piasutno can get a sense of the place through three distinct themes: Lake Piasutno, sporting events and the history of the Polish school in Masuria. Each theme calls for different planning steps. For fishing, permit rules are relevant; for beach volleyball, the date of the event in the year concerned; and the historical heritage gives the place a cultural and historical connection that is not tied to a tournament day. Before settling on your accommodation, you can decide whether a sporting event should determine when you travel, or whether the lake and local history should be the main focus.

Lake Piasutno: Size and Fishing

Lake Piasutno covers 51.74 hectares. Its average depth is 4 metres, and its maximum depth is 7 metres. The area and depth figures describe different aspects of the lake, and the average and maximum depths differ by 3 metres. Together, the figures provide a concise overview of its size and depth.

Since 1 January 2025, the lake has been open to private recreational fishing. Annual and short-term permits are available, among other places, in Szczytno and Olsztyn, and through the wedkarz.pzw.pl app. Check the current permit rules before travelling. The distinction is important for planning: the opening applies to fishing on the lake, while the permit rules must be followed for the specific fishing trip.

Beach Volleyball as a Specific Event

On 18 July 2026, the 20th Open Beach Volleyball Championships of Szczycieński County were held on the beach at Lake Piasutno. Twelve women’s, men’s and mixed teams competed using the Brazilian system of play. The tournament has been organised for many years jointly by the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Świętajno and the Ochotnicza Straż Pożarna in Piasutno. The 2026 edition is a specific reference point in the history of the event series. If you want to travel for the competition, check the date for your intended travel year.

The Polish School and Masurian Heritage

The Polish school in Piasutno opened in 1931 and was then the only Polish school in Masuria. Its first and only teacher was Jerzy Lanc. The “Lanca” cycling route leads to a building in the centre of the village where Lanc taught. This makes it possible to place the school’s history in both a local and a regional context: the building connects Lanc’s work with Piasutno, while the school’s uniqueness at the time illustrates its significance for Masuria.

Piasutno’s architectural heritage includes traditional Masurian houses. They add another facet to the history of the school: here, the houses represent an architectural tradition, while the school’s story concerns a Polish school and its teacher. The houses provide an architectural point of reference, while the school site, with its date and teacher, anchors a specific episode in regional history.
