Gołdap combines a spa profile with culture and activities on the water or on foot. This offers a range of ways to plan your trip: the graduation towers, a permanent exhibition, a historic water tower with viewing terraces, and trails towards Grabowo. Which of these themes you want to shape your stay is a good starting point for finding a suitable hotel.
Spa profile and city views
Since 2000, Gołdap has held spa status, with a therapeutic mud and climate profile. Its spa infrastructure includes a mineral water drinking pavilion and graduation towers. The Mazurskie tężnie solankowe are 220 metres long and 8 metres high. These dimensions put the structure in perspective in two ways: its length greatly exceeds its height. Another highlight is the historic water tower, which has two modern viewing terraces overlooking the city and surrounding forests. The graduation towers and viewing terraces thus offer different perspectives on Gołdap: its spa profile on the one hand, and the city and forest on the other. If you are looking for city and forest views, the tower can be a stop in its own right; check access to the viewing terraces in advance.
Culture, from collections to events
The permanent exhibition at the Muzeum Ziemi Gołdapskiej consists mainly of ethnographic, historical and geological exhibits, as well as military memorabilia. A 2023 city overview listed the Festiwal Gitarowy Erupcja and the Festiwal Pogranicza „Kartaczewo“ among events at the Dom Kultury in Gołdap. The permanent exhibition and festival programme offer two different ways to engage with culture: a visit featuring several collection themes, or planning around a specific event date. If attending a festival is important to you, check the dates for your travel period.
By the lake and on foot
At the Słoneczny Zakątek beach complex, you can play table tennis or take a solar catamaran trip on Lake Gołdap. This offers a choice between an activity at the complex and a trip on the water. Check current operating information before your visit. The green „Szlak mazurskich gór“ hiking trail starts at the monument to Emanuel Kant in Gołdap and heads south towards Grabowo. The starting point and direction give you a rough idea of the route; check current trail conditions before setting out.
In the wider Goldap destination
The wider Goldap destination offers additional options. In Gołdap, next to the graduation towers, there is a one-hectare, multigenerational playground. Mini-golf courses are located around the graduation towers and on the shore of Jezioro Gołdap; clubs can be borrowed free of charge from the Pijalnia Wód Mineralnych i Leczniczych. Check the current availability of clubs on site. A kayak route on the Gołdapa runs from Jezioro Gołdap through the town of Gołdap. This distinction can help you choose the type of outing: mini-golf is available at named locations, while the kayak route runs from the lake through the town.
