Masłów combines air sports with local history: the sports airfield has been in operation since 1937, while the church and memorials recall its architectural history and the visit of John Paul II. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing places in the town from other sites in the municipality and nearby. You can then choose the focus of your stay based on the topics that interest you most.

Air Sports and the Airfield

The certified flight training centre of the Aeroklub Kielecki offers training in powered aircraft, gliders and parachuting at Masłów Airfield. The airfield is also considered suitable for hang gliders, paragliders and skydivers. Powered paragliding flights from the airfield offer views of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains from the air. If you are planning a specific course, check the current offer with the operator in advance.

In Masłów Pierwszy, within the municipality of Masłów, the airfield has a lighted, 900-metre asphalt concrete runway and a 900-metre grass runway.

Church and Memorials

The church in Masłów was built between 1927 and 1937; its style draws on Romanesque and Gothic art. Jan K. Sas-Zubrzycki also attempted to develop a concept for a Neo-Gothic church. The church’s stylistic influences and a separate Neo-Gothic design proposal therefore stand side by side.

Near the church, an obelisk commemorates the anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s visit on 3 June 1991. A memorial stone bears the inscription “Pamiątka pobytu Jana Pawła II w Masłowie 3 czerwca 1991 r.” (“Commemorating John Paul II’s stay in Masłów on 3 June 1991”). The obelisk marks the anniversary, while the inscription preserves the memory of the visit.

Walking Destinations and Scenery

Near Masłów lies Diabelski Kamień, also known as Wielki Kamień: a rock outcrop of Upper Cambrian quartz sandstone, protected since 1954, on the ridge of Klonówka. The red trail leads there from Masłów or Ameliówka in about an hour on foot. This gives you an approximate walking time for planning; check current trail conditions before setting out.

In the municipality of Masłów, hiking and cycling trails intersect in the Lubrzanka Gorge, between the slopes of Radostowa and Dąbrówka. The “On the Masłowki Chain” route passes through Masłów Pierwszy. If you plan to follow one of these routes, check current trail conditions before setting out.

Culture in the Municipality

In Ciekoty, the Szklany Dom – Dworek Stefana Żeromskiego educational centre comprises a reconstruction of a traditional Polish manor house and the Szklany Dom, with training and workshop rooms. This is another cultural point of interest within the municipality, alongside Masłów’s church architecture.
