A trip to Wetlina can combine hiking with local history and natural features. One particularly well-defined section is the “Połonina Wetlińska” nature trail: it starts in Brzegi Górne, ends in Wetlina and is 12.20 kilometres long. There are also several hiking trails that start in Wetlina and lead to different destinations. You can plan your stay around hiking destinations while also taking cultural or landscape interests into account. These different interests do not all have to fit into the same hike.

Hiking and day planning

The average walking time on the nature trail is four hours uphill and three hours and 55 minutes downhill. The times differ by five minutes; use them as a rough guide and factor the direction into your planning. The route described first follows the red-marked section from Berehy Górne to Przełęcz Orłowicza, then continues along the yellow-marked trail to Wetlina-Stare Sioło. After rain, the nature trail routes become slippery because of the clay soil. Check conditions before setting out and take the terrain into account when planning your hike.

On the nature trail, you can use the distance and average walking times to plan your schedule. You can distinguish other hiking trails by their marker colour and destination. This gives you different options: a hike with a specified distance and walking time, or a particular hiking destination.

Other hiking destinations

From Wetlina, yellow-marked trails lead to Przełęcz Orłowicza and, via Jawornik and Paportna, to Rabia Skała. Green-marked trails lead to Mała Rawka and Jawornik. Jawornik has two roles in the route descriptions: it is an intermediate point on the way to Rabia Skała and also the destination of a green-marked trail. The destination names and trail markers help you distinguish between the hiking options.

Local history and nature

Wetlina was founded in the first half of the 16th century under Wallachian law, on lands belonging to the Kmita family of Lesko. A later cultural and historical landmark is the first wooden Greek Catholic church in Wetlina. It was built in 1786 and dedicated to Saint Demetrius the Great Martyr. The church thus marks a later, precisely dated chapter in the village’s history.

Wetlina is home to an ash tree protected as a natural monument. The “Siklawa” waterfall is on the section between Stare Sioło and Wetlina. These two natural features are located in different ways: the ash tree stands in the village, while the waterfall is associated with a section between two place names.

Another seasonal highlight

Cross-country ski trails are associated with Wetlina, adding a winter dimension to the hiking themes. If you are looking for accommodation, Wetlina may be a good focus for choosing where to stay if trails starting or ending in the village shape your trip.
