Kolbuszowa brings together a distinctive landscape setting with themes of nature, cycling and architectural heritage. The town lies on the Kolbuszowa Plateau beside the Nil stream, between the forests of the former Sandomierz Wilderness. In the municipality, highlights range from the Zabłocie Nature Reserve and signposted cycling routes to the open-air museum, the All Saints Parish Church and the palace in Werynia. This makes it possible to choose what to see based on specific interests.

Landscape and geographical orientation

The nationally significant railway line No. 71, on the Ocice–Rzeszów route, runs through the municipality and the town of Kolbuszowa; it connects Tarnobrzeg with Rzeszów. This route adds another point of reference to the town’s location on the Nil. The Zabłocie Nature Reserve covers 536.95 hectares and extends beyond the municipality of Kolbuszowa. It protects habitats of rare bird species as well as natural plant communities of the former Sandomierz Wilderness. This specifies both the size of the reserve and the features it protects.

Cycling routes and planning your time

There are four signposted cycling routes of varying difficulty in the municipality. The blue cycling route is 32.2 kilometres long, with a stated travel time of three to four hours. Distance and duration offer different planning details: the kilometre figure describes the route, while the travel time provides a timeframe for the ride. Route details may change, so check the current signage locally.

Wooden architecture and cultural sites

The Kolbuszowa Open-Air Museum of Folk Culture covers almost 30 hectares and features more than 80 examples of wooden architecture. These include homes and farm buildings, as well as craft and industrial buildings and public buildings. The collection therefore spans a range of building functions, from residential and agricultural uses to production and public purposes. The variety of exhibits makes the museum a specific point of interest for wooden architecture.

The All Saints Parish Church in Kolbuszowa has side altars from the first half of the 18th century and a bell from the 17th century. Its crypts contain burial vaults belonging to the Lubomirski and Sanguszko families, which are not open to visitors. The Jewish cemetery covers 1.6 hectares and preserves around 50 stone tombstones with inscriptions in Polish, German and Hebrew. The two sites offer different points of interest: dated religious furnishings at one, multilingual tombstone inscriptions at the other.

Werynia and ĹšwierczĂłw

The Tyszkiewicz Palace in Werynia was built between 1900 and 1905. It stands in a 25-hectare manor park with numerous ponds. The construction dates and park size provide two specific points of reference for the site; the palace itself is one building set within an extensive landscape.

The Centre for Ecological Education in ĹšwierczĂłw has a diorama featuring animals and plants, as well as a furnished classroom for meetings and lessons with foresters. Here, the presentation of animal and plant life is combined with an educational space. Programme availability may vary. If you would like to include a particular offering in your plans, check its availability in advance.
