Międzybrodzie Bialskie lies on the northern shore of the Soła. Jezioro Międzybrodzkie, the peaks of the Beskid Mały, and a brick church with Renaissance and Baroque paintings each offer a different attraction. Landscape, hiking, and culture come together here; hiking options range from a trail to a named summit to a 15-kilometre route. Before your trip, you can decide whether to focus on a mountain hike, the lakeside scenery, or a cultural visit.

Lake and mountain ranges

Jezioro Międzybrodzkie is an artificial lake on the Soła River. It covers an area of 3.8 km² and is about 5 km long. Along its shores, the slopes of the mountain massifs belonging to the Beskid Mały descend towards the water. In addition to its original function, the lake also serves as a recreational area. Its area and approximate length give different measures of the body of water; together with the descending slopes, they shape the lakeside landscape.

The surroundings of Międzybrodzie Bialskie are also defined by valleys and mountain slopes. The village lies in the valleys of the Ponikiew, Duża Żarnówka, and Mała Żarnówka streams, and on the slopes of Rogacz, Magurka, and Hrobacza Łąka. The landscape is therefore not defined by the lake alone: the named valleys and mountain ranges provide additional, clearly distinct landmarks.

Hiking destinations and different distances

A yellow trail leads from the centre of Międzybrodzie Bialskie via Międzybrodzie Ponikiew to Magurka, at 909 m, and the PTTK mountain hut. The ascent takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. A marked trail also leads from Międzybrodzie Bialskie to Czupel, at 933 m, the highest peak in the Beskid Mały. The destinations also differ in what makes them noteworthy: Magurka is associated with the mountain hut and the stated ascent time, while Czupel is notable as the highest peak in the mountain group.

The Czernichów–Czupel–Magurka–Międzybrodzie Bialskie hiking route is 15 km long and passes through a smaller, more frequently visited part of Beskid Mały Landscape Park. Its total length is therefore a different measure from the ascent from the village centre to Magurka. Another time estimate applies only to the Czupel–Magurka Wilkowicka section: it takes just over half an hour. This estimate applies to that section, not to the entire route from Międzybrodzie Bialskie.

The area around Jezioro Międzybrodzkie also serves as a starting point for hiking trails to the surrounding Beskid Mały peaks. The lake and the summit trails can therefore be seen as two different ways to explore the landscape: the body of water is a landmark in its own right, while the routes lead to specific high points. When planning a hike, it is worth keeping the distance of each route and the scope of its time estimate in mind.

Church, festival, and water activities

The village is home to a brick church dating from 1863. It houses valuable Renaissance and Baroque paintings. The year it was built and the paintings point to different historical periods, making the church a distinct cultural attraction alongside the lake and hiking landscape.

The annual “Święto Morza,” held in June or July, offers another possible reason to visit. OWR Przystań Międzybrodzie Bialskie, at ul. Żywiecka 52, has single and double kayaks, traditional kayaks, sit-on-top kayaks, canoes, and SUP equipment. Check the current availability of equipment before visiting.
