Two specific points of interest give Niegowa its character: St. Nicholas Parish Church on the hill at the western edge of the village, and circular cycling routes that include the village in different ways. The church offers views across the whole village and its surroundings. Two different details are useful when choosing a route: one circuit is 13.8 kilometres long; the green cycling route no. 561 starts and ends in Niegowa. This places local history and cycling side by side as clearly defined highlights, without requiring you to follow a fixed itinerary for the day.

Parish Church: Hill, Village Views and History

St. Nicholas Parish Church stands on a hill at the western edge of the village. Its location makes it a distinctive landmark within the village; from there, the view extends across all of Niegowa and its surroundings. The church probably already existed in the 12th century. However, it was first mentioned in writing in 1306, in connection with the first written mention of the village of Niegowa. This distinction matters: 1306 marks the first written reference, not a confirmed construction date. The church’s early existence remains qualified as “probable.”

One specific feature of the parish church is the iron door leading to the chancel. It dates from the 16th century and formerly served as the entrance to a tower of Mirów Castle. As a valuable example of blacksmithing, it represents a different historical period from the church’s probable early existence and its written mention. The view from the hill takes in the village and its surroundings; the door and its date, by contrast, draw attention to individual traces of history. Together, the location, the church’s history and the craftsmanship offer three different points of reference for understanding Niegowa.

A Comparison of Two Cycling Circuits

A 13.8-kilometre cycling route forms a circuit through Bobolice, Mirów, Łutowiec, Moczydło, Niegowa and Ogorzelnik, returning to Bobolice. The green cycling route no. 561 starts in Niegowa, passes through Mirów, Łutowiec and Moczydło, and returns to Niegowa as a circuit.

Mirów, Łutowiec and Moczydło appear in both descriptions. The routes are distinguished mainly by the 13.8-kilometre length and return to Bobolice of one route, and by the number 561 and the start and return point of Niegowa for the other. Check the current conditions of the green cycling route no. 561 before setting out.

Wierna Cave: Location and Access

Wierna Cave is located within the municipality of Niegowa, but in Ostrężnik, a small hamlet of the village of Trzebniów. It is therefore geographically distinct from the parish church in Niegowa itself. Access is possible only occasionally and is reserved exclusively for cavers. The cave should therefore not be planned as a regular stop for a visit open to the general public; this restriction is important when planning your day.
