Wyry offers several points of cultural and historical interest: a manor complex, religious monuments, an obelisk and a historical themed trail. They differ in their historical periods and subjects; there are also sights in the surrounding area. The pedunculate oak near Stary Staw is located within the municipality of Wyry. Architectural history, commemorative culture and nature provide different points of interest.

Manor House and Historical Monuments

The manor complex in Wyry dates from the transition between the 18th and 19th centuries and includes residential buildings, farm buildings and a fragment of a wall. Visitors interested in historical architecture can explore various elements of an estate, rather than focusing on just one building. The dating places the complex at the threshold of two centuries; it is not a single construction year for all its components.

A stone wayside cross dating from 1860, donated by the municipality of Wyry, stands on Główna Street in Wyry. A stone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the 19th century also stands on the street. The dates make a specific distinction: an exact year is given for the cross, while the statue is dated by century. An obelisk in Wyry commemorates those murdered during the Second World War. Thus, in addition to religious monuments, the townscape also includes places explicitly dedicated to remembrance.

A Themed Trail About 1939

A historical themed trail focuses on the Polish defence in September 1939 and runs through the main part of Wyry, including along Wagonowa and Leszczynowa streets. A local report from August 2026 described the trail as available. Check its current status before visiting. According to the report, the app developed for the trail offered location-based extra content and challenges in Polish, English and German. Check its current availability as well.

Historical Sites in the Surrounding Area

Nearby Gostyń is home to a historic church dating from 1922, which now serves as a cemetery chapel. Its year of construction and current function provide two different points of reference for the building.

The “Sowiniec” bunker is also in the surrounding area. It did not take part in the fighting in the first days of September 1939 and is considered a silent witness to the history that unfolded there. Its connection to the history of September 1939 is therefore different from that of the themed trail, which focuses specifically on the Polish defence.

Natural Monument in the Municipality of Wyry

In the municipality of Wyry, near Stary Staw, is the municipality’s only designated natural monument: a pedunculate oak with a trunk circumference of 550 cm, measured at breast height. This figure refers to the trunk circumference, not the tree’s height. The municipality of Wyry is the geographical setting for this natural attraction.
