Ornontowice brings together local history and cycling: Hegenscheidt Palace adds a local historical highlight, while several routes include the town in different itineraries. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing the details by length, route type and the town’s role. This helps you see whether a circular route passes through several municipalities, lists Ornontowice as its endpoint, or a cycling route includes fields, forests and ponds as well as place names.

Cycling: Routes and Distances

The blue circular cycling route in Mikołów County is 73 kilometres long and passes through all five municipalities in the county: Mikołów, Wyry, Łaziska Górne, Orzesze and Ornontowice. This makes Ornontowice part of a route that crosses several municipalities. At 73 kilometres, it is the longest of the three cycling routes mentioned here.

The red circular cycling route covers 31 kilometres and ends in Ornontowice, on the border with Chudów. This gives the town a different role from the one it has on the 73-kilometre blue circular route: here, Ornontowice is explicitly the endpoint. When choosing a circular route, its stated itinerary and finish can therefore matter as well as its distance.

Blue Cycling Route No. 372 is another connection, with a different layout. It is 21 kilometres long and runs from Paniówki to Nieborowice via Chudów, Ornontowice and Knurów, passing through fields and forests and alongside ponds. Since the 73-kilometre circular route is also blue, the route number and type help distinguish the two: No. 372 has two named endpoints, while the other blue route is the circular route through the five municipalities.

Cyclists can use five rest stops with functional shelters in Ornontowice. This municipal infrastructure adds a local point of reference to the regional route information.

Palace and Local Tradition

Hegenscheidt Palace in Ornontowice was built in the mid-19th century and remained in the Hegenscheidt family’s possession until 1945. The construction date and the end of the family’s ownership provide two historical markers for understanding the building. The palace’s history thus connects its origins with the family that owned it until 1945.

Saint Michael the Archangel is also part of the local cultural and spiritual tradition. He was declared the patron saint of Ornontowice on 29 September 2012. The palace’s history and the patron saint represent different aspects of the town’s past: one reflects the building’s age and family ownership, the other a religious tradition.

Planned Leisure Facilities at the Municipal Park

Plans for the area around the Municipal Park included a 15 × 4-metre boules court and an eight-hole mini-golf course. The plan therefore included two different leisure activities: the proposed area is specified for boules, while the number of holes is given for mini-golf. As planned features, they add another dimension to leisure in Ornontowice alongside cycling and local history.
