Ustroń Spa Town offers mountain trails, wildlife attractions and cultural sites as different highlights for a trip. When planning, it is worth treating Czantoria and Palenica as separate mountain destinations and considering museum and church visits as a distinct cultural element. This lets you first decide which experiences are most important for your stay before looking for accommodation.
Mountain trails and cable cars
The Czantoria cable car is a detachable chairlift with four-seat chairs and a length of 1,640 metres. From the upper station, you can reach the summit and its observation tower via an easy forest path in about 30 minutes. Parking, as well as bus and rail connections, are available near the cable car. Check the latest operating information before your trip if you plan to include the cable car in your itinerary.
At Palenica, you can distinguish the trails by their purpose: the blue hiking trail leads to the summit; the green trail starts there and heads towards Orłowa, Brenna and Madziówka. The summit can also be reached by the Palenica cable car. This makes it possible to distinguish the route to the summit from the direction of the hike that follows, without combining both details into a single route.
Palenica Bike Park currently has four downhill runs of varying difficulty. Check the current trail status before your visit if you plan to include the bike park.
Bird and wildlife attractions
At Leśny Park Niespodzianek, the Sowiarnia, with flight displays by specially trained owls, is the main attraction. There are currently about 30 birds at the Sokolarnia. The Centre for Nature and Forest Education offers something different: animal exhibits from North America, Africa and Europe. Together, these offer a specific focus on owl displays, the birds at the Sokolarnia, and exhibits featuring animals from three continents.
Museums, churches and history
The Muzeum Ustrońskie is located at the historic former “Klemens” ironworks. It displays monumental forging machines; the museum also has a growing open-air museum. This combination brings together a historic industrial site, large machines and an open-air museum as distinct parts of the museum’s offerings.
In the centre of Ustroń, Stara Zagroda presents a reconstruction of a house from 1768. Authentic elements such as door frames and ceiling beams were used in its construction. As an ethnographic museum, Stara Zagroda also houses a permanent exhibition of old equipment. The reconstruction and the exhibition of equipment thus offer two different points of interest for a visit: historic construction and everyday objects.
The churches also differ in their history. The Evangelical church in Ustroń is dedicated to the Apostle James the Greater and was built in 1838. Its altar dates from 1883 and was donated by ironworkers from Ustroń, Trzyniec and Frydek. St. Clement’s parish church was consecrated on 23 November 1788. In front of the Pijalnia Wód stands a fountain known as the Ustroń Graduation Tower.
