Bielsko-Biała can be explored in two distinct ways: through its clothmakers, residential history and historic interiors, as well as through opportunities for outdoor activities. The castle of the Dukes of Sułkowski is the oldest and largest historic building in the historic city of Bielsko-Biała. For more than two centuries, it served as one of the residences of the Piast dukes of Teschen. Its long history as a ducal residence stands alongside traces of the clothmaking trade and industry.
Clothmakers, factories and historic interiors
The Weaver’s House is located in Górne Przedmieście. The district dates back to the first half of the 15th century and was inhabited by clothmakers from Bielsko. The permanent exhibition reconstructs the home and workshop of a master clothmaker, bringing everyday life and work together. After many years of conservation and reconstruction work, the Weaver’s House opened to visitors in 1992. Check the current visitor arrangements separately if you are planning a visit.
The Stara Fabryka Museum offers a different perspective. It is housed in the buildings of a former cloth and wool goods factory, which operated from 1887. In 2006, the museum was added to the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship. The history of guild craftsmanship and the former factory highlight different aspects of textile work.
The Market Square retains townhouses from the 17th and 18th centuries within its medieval street layout. The Polish Theatre was built in 1890 and has a restored, richly decorated interior. The entrance building of Bielsko-Biała Główna railway station was also built in 1890; its main hall features restored Pompeian polychrome decorations. The two buildings share the same year of construction, but their interiors offer different highlights: the theatre’s rich decoration and the railway hall’s polychrome paintings.
BWA Bielsko Gallery is about a ten-minute walk from Bielsko-Biała Główna and PKS stations. Walking time may vary. For each season from 2022 to 2027, Banialuka Puppet Theatre planned four premieres for preschool children, schoolchildren, teenagers and adults. If you would like to attend a performance, check the current schedule.
Mountain trails and different activity levels
Enduro Trails Bielsko-Biała is a network of mountain bike singletracks designed for uphill or one-way riding. Difficulty levels range from easy descents to technically demanding downhill trails. Rock'N'Rolla and Twister are blue flow trails and together measure more than 11 kilometres. Alongside the broad range of difficulty levels, these are two specifically named trails with a combined length given. Check the conditions on individual trails before riding.
There is also a specific figure for mountain hiking: Bielsko-Biała has 16 designated mountain hiking trails, totalling 81 kilometres. As the range of routes may change, check the current information before your hike.
The cable car to Szyndzielnia has a 1,810-metre-long route. Beside its upper station is an observation tower with an 18-metre-high viewing platform and a telescope offering 25× magnification. The building of the former upper cable-car station now houses the “Stara Stacja” restaurant.
The Dębowiec Centre offers a different focus: it includes a 610-metre-long ski slope, as well as a nature education trail with six information boards. Winter sports and a trail with nature interpretation stops are thus presented as distinct activities.
