Rumia brings together a valley with protected nature, views over the city and a layered history. In the Dolina Zagórskiej Strugi Nature Reserve, the stream, trout and old beech and oak trees on the slopes take centre stage; there are also parks, cultural venues and events. To choose your destination and a hotel, start with a simple question: would you mainly like to walk and cycle, visit a viewpoint, or set aside time for history and culture?

Nature and trails in the Zagórska Struga Valley

The Dolina Zagórskiej Strugi Nature Reserve covers areas in Rumia. The city announced its designation in November 2025. The Struga, the trout living in it, and old beech and oak trees on the slopes are protected. A hiking trail leads into the Zagórska Struga Valley. You can walk along the Zagórska Struga from Kamienna Street near Szmelta, heading towards the forest. In the nature reserve, you may only walk on designated paths.

Starowiejski Park is located between Starowiejska and Mickiewicza Streets. Its main attractions include the pond and the pedestrian and cycle path that runs along the Zagórska Struga. Another pedestrian and cycle route runs along Żwirki-i-Wigury Street. This gives you a choice of different options for walks and bike rides around the city.

Views from Góra Markowca

Góra Markowca has an observation tower, a zip line, a playground and a climbing wall. The climbing wall has routes of varying difficulty. From the observation tower, you can look out over the city from more than 112 metres above sea level. The views and facilities offer a different focus from the trails in the valley: here, the panorama over Rumia goes hand in hand with several specific activities.

City history and exhibitions

The ruins of a medieval church are located in Rumia, with the historic cemetery surrounding them. Another way to explore the city’s history is the Muzeum Miasta Rumi, located in the basement rooms of Stacja Kultura. A guided visit is available year-round, free of charge, and by appointment booked in advance. Exhibits include the skeleton of the “oldest resident of Rumia,” coins from the ruins of a Cistercian church, and documents and photographs about life in the post-war period. The history room is also free to visit; arrange your visit by email.

The “Z dziejów ziemi” exhibition is located at the Miejski Dom Kultury, in a restored 19th-century manor house. Its exhibits include the skeleton of a woman who lived 2,000 years ago and was found during archaeological excavations in Rumia. If you plan to visit the exhibition, check the current visiting arrangements in advance.

Events throughout the year

Rumia’s recurring events calendar includes the Międzynarodowy Festiwal Muzyki Religijnej im. ks. St. Ormińskiego, held in October. The Letnie Koncerty Organowe take place in July and August. If a concert is the main focus of your trip, check the dates for the current edition; for the organ concerts, it is also worth checking the latest information about the venue.
