Lewinko lies between Pobłocie and Lewino, not far from Lake “Jezioro Lewinko.” A designated walking and cycling route begins at the lake and is named after Lewino and its burial mound field. This makes it possible to consider the location, route and archaeological surroundings together. They offer different focal points for planning a trip: the waterscape near Lewinko and the history of nearby Lewino.
The lake near Lewinko
Jezioro Lewinko is one of the largest lakes in the municipality of Linia. The lake covers 51.5 hectares and is up to 12 meters deep. It is a flow-through lake; the Bolszewka rises there. Area and depth are different measurements: 51.5 hectares describes the lake’s extent, while up to 12 meters is its maximum depth. Its classification as a flow-through lake and the source of the Bolszewka add two hydrological points of reference to these measurements. Together, they offer a specific introduction to a body of water near Lewinko and one of the defining natural features of the area.
A route between the lake and the burial mounds
The “Jezioro Lewinko–Lewino ‘cmentarzysko kurhanowe’” route is designated for walking and cycling. It begins at the lake and initially follows an asphalt road; this is followed by a field section through meadows and hilly terrain. The change from road to field distinguishes the two parts of the route. The route’s name connects the lake with Lewino and its burial mound field. For travelers interested in both the landscape and archaeology, the route thus links a waterside feature with an archaeological site in the area.
Burial mounds and local history
The archaeological site in Lewino, near Lewinko, includes burial mounds dating from the 11th century at the edge of the forest. The burial mound field is dated to the 10th to 12th centuries and comprises 16 earth mounds with oval or rectangular ground plans. The dates overlap: the 11th century falls within the broader period from the 10th to 12th centuries. The oval or rectangular shapes add another specific feature of the burial ground to its chronological context. Its location at the edge of the forest, period and ground plans provide different points of reference for the archaeological site.
A house at ul. Leśna 4 in Lewinko dates from the 1920s to 1930s. Compared with the burial mounds in Lewino, it belongs to a much more recent period of construction; the two locations thus represent different eras. A report dated April 15, 2025, describes the installation of Rujawc in Lewinko along the “Poczuj Kaszubskiego Ducha” trail; it also identifies Rujawc as the guardian spirit of pilgrims and hikers. This adds a different cultural perspective to the archaeological traces: here the focus is on a named protective role, while the burial mounds are considered in terms of their period and form.
