In Lapalice, a walking route follows Lake Rekowskie to the Zamek w Łapalicach. There are also cycling routes of varying lengths, routes and endpoints. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between them: a path to the castle, a cycle route through several towns and a circuit each offer a different focus for your trip.
On foot along Lake Rekowskie to the castle
Trasa nr 1 (Łapalice) runs along Lake Rekowskie and reaches the Zamek w Łapalicach via a narrow forest path. The route therefore takes you from the lakeside section along a forest trail to a clearly named destination. If you want to reach the castle on foot, this sequence is what makes the route distinctive.
Cycling routes with different endpoints
The 13.2-kilometre Kartuzy–„Złota Góra“ cycle route section passes through Lapalice, Garcz, Chmielno, Zawory and Ręboszewo. It also passes the contemporary Zamek w Łapalicach, one of the attractions named along the route. The sequence of towns gives this cycling route a different focus from routes described mainly by their endpoint.
The Zamkowa Trasa Rowerowa is 5.2 kilometres long and runs from Lapalice to the municipal boundary between Kartuzy and Chmielno, near Rekowo. It is signposted along the route. When comparing it with other routes, both its starting point and its endpoint at the municipal boundary are key.
The Północna trasa gminy Kartuzy offers a different format: this 32.8-kilometre circuit ends in Lapalice. It runs mainly through forests and farmland, passing several larger lakes, including Rekowo, Łapalickie, Białe and Sianowskie. This makes it easy to choose based on route type: the Kartuzy–„Złota Góra“ section lists a sequence of towns, the Zamkowa Trasa ends at a boundary point, and the Północna is a loop ending in Lapalice.
Kartuzy in the wider Karthaus destination
In the wider Karthaus destination, Kartuzy draws visitors’ attention to architectural history and Kashubian cultural heritage. Its Gothic collegiate church dates from the 14th century, is one of Pomerania’s most valuable historic buildings and is unique on a national scale. It bears witness to the activities of the Carthusian Order. Its distinctive features include a Baroque roof shaped like a coffin lid, symbolising the Order’s monastic ideal and motto, “memento mori”.
The Franciszek Treder Kashubian Museum in Kartuzy presents literature, material culture, language, regional history and traditions. Its exhibits are spread across eight exhibition rooms in the main building. The museum also houses Bazyli’s smithy, the exhibition “Kaszubska współczesność z korzeni wyrasta” and temporary exhibitions. The museum is therefore another tangible way to explore the region’s culture.
Routes and public spaces also help visitors find their way around Kartuzy. The Promenada Asesora is a walking and cycling path beside Lake Karczemne and is connected to the Ławka Asesora, which serves as a viewpoint over Kartuzy. Nordic Walking Route No. 1 covers 8.4 kilometres and takes about two hours, running from the Ławka Asesora via Kosy and Bilowo to Kartuzy. The municipal route webpage is dated 27 June 2016; check the route information before setting out.
