Koczała can be explored through three specific interests: Lake Dymno, cycling routes of different lengths, and historic buildings in the town. When planning, you can decide whether to focus on nature, exercise or architectural history. Distances and dated buildings provide concrete points of reference.

Lake Dymno and Koczała Camp

Lake Dymno is located in the municipality of Koczała. It covers 68.22 ha; its maximum depth is 18.0 m and its average depth is 7.0 m. It is a charophyte lake, with its bed covered by charophyte macroalgae. Its protected status is also dated: in 2009, the lake was included in the Natura 2000 network under the name “Jezioro Dymno.”

Koczała Camp, a municipal recreation and leisure complex, is located in Koczała on Lake Dymno. It includes a sandy-grass beach that is supervised during the summer holidays. There is also a rest area on the lakeshore with benches, tables and waste bins. A shelter with a fire pit is located at the campsite—a separate feature of the facilities described. Koczała Camp is in a Natura 2000 area. As beach supervision is seasonal and facilities may change, it is advisable to check the current conditions before visiting.

Choose cycling routes by distance

The cycling routes described offer four different lengths: 10, 11, 16 and 26 km. These figures help you compare planned distances; the named roads and places also show how the routes differ.

The 26 km Szafirowy Szlak starts at the junction of Szkolna and Spacerowa streets in Koczała. It passes through Dymin, Dźwierzno, Starzno and Ostrówek before returning to Koczała, where it runs along Sportowa, Miastecka and Szkolna streets. Lake Dymno is one of the attractions along this route.

The 10 km Trasa Bobrowa and the 16 km Jelenia cycling route both start on Akacjowa Street. The Bobrowa route passes through Działek and Niedźwiady to the boundary between the municipalities of Koczała and Przechlewo. The Jelenia route runs through Działek, Załęże, Zapadłe and Stara Brda Pilska to the same municipal boundary. Conditions on the Jelenia cycling route may change; check them before setting off.

Another cycling route is 11 km long. It starts at the boundary between the municipalities of Koczała and Przechlewo, runs along Człuchowska and Polna streets in Koczała, and ends in Płocicz. The routes described therefore differ not only in length but also in their named starting points and places along the way.

Buildings and traces of history

The parish Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Koczała is a listed brick religious building. It was built in 1901–1902 in the Neo-Romanesque-Gothic style. A much earlier date can be found on Południowa Street: an old house there dates from 1830. These two dates point to different chapters in the town’s architectural history.

Historic traces in Koczała also include gravestones in a cemetery. Along with the church and the house on Południowa Street, they offer further concrete points of interest for anyone interested in the town’s history as well as its lake and cycling routes.
