Three specific themes give Ględowo its character: protected cultural heritage, a bathing area on Lake Rychnowskie, and a designated waymarker on the Człuchowska Way of St. James. They answer different questions. The church represents architectural history spanning several centuries, the bathing area is described in terms of its water zone and shoreline length, and the Way of St. James can be understood through its stage and types of path. This can help you decide whether cultural heritage, water, or a stretch of the route should shape your stay.

Church and protected cultural heritage

The branch church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, together with its surroundings and cemetery, is listed as a protected cultural heritage site. Its structural elements date from the 15th and 18th centuries. The site has been listed under registration number A-98 since 21 February 1959. The two dates refer to elements from different centuries, not to a single construction year for the entire complex. Those interested in sacred architecture will find a specific point of reference for the village’s history. The surroundings and cemetery are also explicitly included in the protected site, so its historical significance extends beyond the church building alone.

Bathing area on Lake Rychnowskie

The Ośrodek Szkoleniowy WOPR bathing area is located at Ględowo 3W, on Lake Rychnowskie. It has a designated water zone and a 60-metre-long shoreline. The lake itself has a high calcium content and a maximum depth of 31.5 metres. The shoreline and water zone describe features of the bathing area, while calcium content and depth are properties of the lake. This distinction helps you plan by separating the specific bathing spot from the profile of the body of water. Check current conditions before planning a swim.

A stage of the Człuchowska Way of St. James

On the 25.1-kilometre Ostrowite–Człuchów stage of the Człuchowska Way of St. James, Ględowo is marked as a waymarker at kilometre 21.7. The route reaches the village via a field path along the railway line. After the church, it initially follows a pavement and then a shared foot and cycle path towards Człuchów. The route therefore changes type along the way. Check the route markings and local conditions before setting out.

More nature and cultural heritage in the wider destination of Schlochau

The wider destination of Schlochau offers additional lakes and landscapes to explore. Lake Gostudno covers 46.38 hectares and is fed by the Czerwonka. On its eastern shore there is a car park, a beach, a pier, and a recreation area; check that these facilities are still available before travelling. Lake Bardze lies within the “Czerwona Woda nad Babilonem” Special Protection Area. At Lake Sporacz, the lake, bog, and forest together form a nature reserve. These examples highlight different features: Gostudno is described in terms of its shoreline facilities, while Bardze and Sporacz are noted for their protected status and landscape. Schlochau thus broadens the picture beyond Ględowo’s local themes.
