Charzykowy lies on the shore of Lake Charzykowskie, about 6 km from Chojnice. The town combines a sailing history with swimming at the promenade and hiking and cycling trails that start in Charzykowy and lead to a range of destinations. When choosing where to go, you can therefore decide between focusing on the water, taking a walk or following a cycling route connected with Kashubian culture.

On Lake Charzykowskie: lake, beach and sailing

Lake Charzykowskie is one of the larger lakes in the Pomeranian Lake District: it covers more than 1,360 hectares and is up to 30 metres deep. Charzykowy bathing area is on the Charzykowy promenade by the lake and has a 99-metre shoreline. The main beach is complemented by a sand court for football, a volleyball court and a multi-tiered spectator stand.

The Chojnice Sailing Club was founded in 1922 by Otton Weiland and is considered the first sailing club in independent Poland. The club runs a sailing school that is open year-round. On Lake Charzykowskie, the ChKŻ marina has more than 100 berths for yachts and motorboats. The club’s history, sailing instruction and marina are thus part of the town’s maritime character.

Lake Charzykowskie and its surroundings are also associated with windsurfing, fishing, horse riding, Nordic walking, cycling and long walks. Boats with combustion engines are prohibited on the lake; it is also considered especially calm and clean in terms of water quality.

On foot and by bike

The green Struga Siedmiu Jezior trail section starts in Charzykowy and ends in Chojnice. The entire green trail passes through Bory Tucholskie National Park near Stara Piła. As trail conditions can change seasonally, it is worth checking them before setting out.

The red Kaszubska Marszruta route starts at the promenade in Charzykowy and ends in Czersk. It is signposted and rated as easy. The route follows dedicated cycle paths with gravel, asphalt or concrete surfaces; conditions may change over time. Check the current state of the route before setting off. Along the red route, cyclists can discover Kashubian art and culture.

The options can be briefly distinguished when choosing a trip: the green section is a hiking trail from Charzykowy to Chojnice, while the red route is a cycling trip from the promenade to Czersk. The cycling route also offers a connection with Kashubian art and culture.

Planning your stay

Charzykowy is connected to Chojnice by bus. If you plan to take the bus, it is worth checking the current timetable. When choosing between activities on the lake, walks and the two routes, you can also take into account whether you would rather travel on foot or by bike.
